Principal Senethavilay's Update
March 17, 2022
BIG CHANGES COMING
PVE Families,
It has been a wild and crazy third quarter! As we come to a close, we thank you for trusting us with your children and partnering with us as we navigate the world of education. We hope you have a fantastic Spring Break, find time for some relaxation, and find joy in each moment with your children.
Following our return from Spring Break, a few changes will be happening concerning our daily schedule and our procedures. Now that we are back to business as usual and practicing universal precautions, we will be changing our morning, lunch, and inclement weather routines. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these changes.
Mornings Before School:
Students will be allowed to play on the playground. Backpacks must be placed in their classroom lines before moving to the equipment or field. At the first bell (9:00 or 9: 15 on late start), students will move to their classroom lines, where staff will open doors to bring students inside. All doors shut and lock at 9:05ish (9:20ish on Wednesdays) to allow the staff to be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings at 9:10 (9:25 on Wednesday).
If your child is late and the doors have already closed, they will need to enter through the front office. Please note that a student is tardy if they are not in their assigned classroom when the bell rings.
Inclement Weather:
Should weather prevent us from being outside before school, students are asked to enter the main door and head to the gym. All students 1st-5th will be in the gym before school so teachers can continue to prepare for their arrival. Kindergarteners will be in the library, and preschool will go immediately to the classroom with staff. Questions? Please reach out. We know this will take some support to retrain our procedures.
Cafeteria:
We will now be eating in the cafeteria!
Our lunchtimes have changed. Some classes will have recess before lunch, and others will have recess after lunch. To accommodate all 600+ students, our students will have to be diligent about focusing on their eating so grade levels can rotate through efficiently.
Here are the lunch times for grade levels:
- Tuition Kindergarten: 12:40-1:00*
- First Grade: 12:30-12: 50*
- Second Grade: 12:05-12: 25*
- Third Grade: 11:30-11:50
- Fourth Grade: 12:55-1:15
- Fifth Grade: 11:50-12:10*
*These grade levels have their recess 20 minutes before lunch with a 5 minutes buffer for hand washing before entering the cafeteria.
We are excited to be back to using our building to full capacity! If you have questions, please reach out.
~Amy
PLEASE SLOW DOWN
We are also asking for your help. Please be sure to slow down in the parking lots and as you enter and exit our lots. We have had several reports from concerned staff and families. Your child's safety is essential. We also know we all have busy lives and events after school; please help plan accordingly.
You are also asked to give your full attention to the loading and unloading areas and our merging of traffic. Our staff is there to help direct traffic and to help load students. Please be respectful of their requests.
Morning Drop Off
Please make sure you pull forward as far as possible to our crosswalk near the south entrance, allowing more cars into the loop and for traffic to flow easier. Do not stop down by the playground. Your student can walk the extra steps to get to the gate.
Need to assist your child? Please park in the lot and use the crosswalk to walk your child onto campus. Otherwise, please remain in your vehicle and have your child exit independently.
Again, not only does the staff appreciate your help, but our neighborhood families also appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Assessments
The window for the state and district assessments is upon us. We will be getting your child's assessment schedule out to you through classroom communications. We ask for your help in preparing your students for these assessments by having them in school daily. Appointments before or after school are greatly appreciated. Students who miss the assessment windows set each day must make up the test. This is an additional loss of instructional time. We are making every effort to focus our instruction on supporting students with mastery toward their grade-level standards, so attendance is critical.
Again, thank you for partnering with us!
