Week In Review
Friday, September 27, 2024
BASD has the ability to utilize 5 flexible instruction days each year in the event that inclement weather or another emergency should create a need to cancel school at some point during the school year. Students will be provided with directions early next week on how to access their assignments should an FID day need to be used during the school year. Please note that there are no snow days built into the district calendar this year.
Free/Reduced Meal Program Grace Period Set to Expire
Was your child eligible for free or reduced-price meals during the 2023-2024 school year? The Federal Government provides a 30-day grace period at the beginning of every school year for participating families to submit their required annual renewal application. The grace period ends on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Families that have not completed their application for 2024-2025 will be charged for lunches beginning on Wednesday, October 9th. If you’re still in need of this program and have not submitted your annual application, please visit www.schoolcafe.com as soon as possible.
Full details regarding the program, including Federal Income Guidelines and the 2024-2025 Homebound Letter, are included in the Food Services Information Packet for 2024-2025. https://secure.smore.com/n/ztpme
Some reminders from the nurse:
· If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. If your child arrives at school not feeling well (and does not have a fever), they will be encouraged to try to complete the school day. Please see click https://www.boyertownasd.org/site/default.aspx?PageType=3&ModuleInstanceID=589&ViewID=7b97f7ed-8e5e-4120-848f-a8b4987d588f&RenderLoc=0&FlexDataID=122&PageID=605
.
· If your child requires medication during the school day (including prescription and over the counter (OTC) medication), please complete the district’s medication administration form. New orders are required each school year even if the order has not changed and must be dated on/after 7/1/2024.
***Medications must be dropped off in the nurse’s office by a parent/guardian. ***Please do not send medications into school in students' backpacks.
· If your child has a health condition/severe allergy that requires an Emergency Action Plan, please review the district’s health services page with the necessary documents that need to be submitted. New action plans are required each school year even if the order has not changed and must be dated on/after 7/1/2024.
· Please keep a spare change of clothing in your child’s backpack for lunchroom spills and accidents. Although we have some clothing in the heath room, we have limited sizes and selection.
· The health office would greatly appreciate any clothing donations of the following:
o Athletic pants/leggings for boys and girls in sizes 3-10 that are clean and in good/gently used condition (please no jeans/khakis)
o New, unused underwear/briefs for both girls and boys in sizes 3-7
· Please remind your child(ren) to wear closed toe and comfortable shoes as they will be going outside for recess as the weather allows (please discourage crocs and sandals to avoid injury).
· Head Lice: Although lice cannot jump, they are easily transmittable through hugging, sharing combs, sharing hats and coats, etc. Please remind your child not to share items and to be cognizant of personal space. Please refer to the district's lice policy.
· Please remind your child(ren) not to share lunch and/or snacks. There are several students with food allergies and/or food sensitivities.
· Please remind your child(ren) to come to school with a refillable water bottle each day. There are water refilling stations in the student halls.
· If food items are brought in by students for birthday celebrations, they must be pre-packed with all allergen information listed.
· Immunization records, health and dental records are required for all Kindergarten students and must be dated on/after 7/1/2023.
· 3rd graders will need to provide the Family Dental Form. Dental visits completed after 7/1/2023 are acceptable for this requirement.
