Dear Families,

As we conclude the 2023-2024 school year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your unwavering support and partnership. Your dedication to your children's education has been instrumental in making this year a success. From participating in school events to assisting with homework and projects, your involvement has enriched our school community and fostered a nurturing environment for our students to thrive. Together, we have celebrated numerous achievements and overcome challenges, always prioritizing the well-being and growth of our students. Thank you for your commitment, enthusiasm, and continuous encouragement throughout the year. We look forward to building on this year’s successes and creating even more wonderful memories in the years to come.

Next week, after Memorial Day, I will send more information to our fifth grade families about the fifth grade celebration. Additionally, I will publish my last 23-24 newsletter on June 8th. In the June 8th letter, I will provide summer reading lists to help you find grade level material to keep your child reading.

As a reminder, students are off Friday, May 24 - Monday, May 27th.

Field day is May 29 ( pending no rain). PTO is providing KONA ices on that day. Please let your child's teacher or the nurse know if you do not want your child to participate in that treat. If it rains on May 29th, the Field Day event will be held on May 30th and the PTO will provide soft pretzels. Once again, please let your child's teacher or nurse know if you do not want your child to participate in that treat.

We are enjoying ourselves immensely while learning. Throughout the year, we've explored and gained knowledge about various cultures and the diversity of our world. On May 15, Diversity Day, students dedicated the day to reading, learning, and creating artifacts related to different cultures and countries of origin. Thank you to Mrs. Stewart and our staff for leading and delivering the cultural activities.

Thank you to Mr. Y , our parent volunteers, and our teachers for orchestrating a great event. Our students did an excellent job participating and following the guidelines during the event.

Twelve 4th and 5th grade participants from the Glen Acres Math Club were selected to represent our school at the annual Think Tank competition at the Spellman Education Center on Monday, May 20th. Competitors in the event cycled through stations where they guided Dash robots through mazes, solved logic puzzles, and used flexible thinking and computation skills to play games of Proof! and All Ten. Our team proved to not only be highly capable mathematicians, but also to be excellent examples of students who bring respect, responsibility, and kindness wherever they go. Congratulations, team!

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Third Annual Padres Latinos of the West Chester Area School District Community Resource Fair and End of Year Celebration on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hillsdale Elementary School located at 725 W. Market Street, West Chester, PA 19382.

The Resource Fair is a community outreach event created with the goal of connecting WCASD Spanish-speaking families to school and community resources to assist parents to overcome linguistic and cultural challenges so they may successfully navigate our school system with ease in support of their children’s education. This event is free for presenters and families.

In 2024 Padres Latinos celebrates 10 years bridging the Spanish speaking community and our schools! Since 2014, Padres Latinos has offered monthly meetings in Spanish, or through an interpreter, to families in the West Chester Area School District throughout the school year. The topics ranged from How to prepare for a successful Parent-Teacher-Conference?; Technology in WCASD; Special Education Services in WCASD; Healthy Relationships with Children and Teens; Drug, Alcohol and Vaping Prevention; Power of Parents (MADD); College 101; Technical College High School Programs; and, QPR Training, just to name a few!

To help us celebrate, we are inviting local organizations to participate in our Third Community Resource Fair. We are hoping that your institution would be able to join us with information about services in Spanish and in English, and, if possible, in donating one item to be raffled at the end of the evening. Please RSVP no later than June 1st, 2024. On the day of the event, all volunteers and presenters may arrive at Hillsdale Elementary at 5:00 p.m. The doors will open to families at 6:00 p.m.

We appreciate your considering this opportunity to engage parents and families make real and valuable connections within our West Chester Community! We hope you will join us on Friday, June 7th at Hillsdale Elementary.

If you or someone you know has a child who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024 you are now able to begin the kindergarten registration process online. The link is: https://www.wcasd.net/Page/12419. Be sure to click on the year 2024-2025.

You will need to upload: child's birth certificate, immunizations, two proofs of residency (one must be a copy of a current lease or mortgage statement, or deed and the second should be a copy of a current utility bill within the past 30 days. If you have a copy of the child's last dental and physical, please upload those as well.)
