The Biology of Glow

What makes Dermresults deliver its Glow?
How do we get our skin to glow? The "Glow" is a subjective notion. It is some thing that is not only dealing with the biology of the skin, but also a feeling, like the one that comes from inside a woman in love. We say "She glows".
So how can we reproduce the Glow ? Biologically speaking we look for four main factors.
- We want to have a perfect reflection of light onto the skin. And for that we need to have a smooth surface.
2. We need to have healthy cells, and have to healthy cells, they need to be fully protected from the oxidative stress caused by free radicals, both inside us and for the environment. A simple example of oxidization is the change of colour of an apple to brown after it is cut. Now, to prevent this, you can cover the apple with lemon juice. The same idea will be taking place with your skin.
3. We need remove "dyschromia", or the spots on the skin.
4. We want plump, elastic skin with a rosy glow and diminished fine lines and wrinkles.
So how do we get these four attributes of Glowing Skin?
First Arbonne uses what we call a "Super Vitamin C".
It is called Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, and It is an A List ingredient .It is the the most expensive kind of Vitamin C in the marketplace because it is stabilized and It penetrates skin deeper than all other forms of vitamin C .
It is a super antioxidant which protects the cells from free radicals, keeping them healthy. Healthy cells create glowing skin, unhealthy skin is dull. We pair it with Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E to boost anti-oxidant qualities even more .
Vitamin C is also a co-factor in the synthesis of collagen, which plumps skin. Plumped skin reflects light better -and this also makes the skin glow.
Most other Vitamin C Serums in the market use L-Ascorbic Acid, because it is cost effective, but it is notoriously unstable and prone to turning brown- which means you can no longer use it.
Next we have Niacinamide, which is vitamin B3.
Niacinamide is the “it” ingredient ;and we use we use a very pure and effective type of Niacinamide. It refines pores, firms skin and stimulates the rebuilding of the extracellular matrix , meaning the top layer of your skin, so it is a very potent anti-wrinkle ingredient.
And finally, it evens out skin tone because it inhibits the transfer of melanin from the Melanocyte to the Keratinocyte. Or in layman's terms , it slows down dark pigment from moving from the beneath your skin where you can’t see it, to the outer layer of your skin, where you can
Optional Extra info
Melanocytes are defined as dendritic cells located in the basal layer of the epidermis . They produce the pigment melanin from tyrosine. Upon maturation, the melanin is transferred to keratinocytes for imparting pigmentation to skin.Figure 1: From the depth to the surface: melanocytes are located deep on the basal layer of skin and transfer the melanin they produce to the keratinocytes.
The third active ingredient we use are Lipopeptides.
They are extracted from Lupine, or BlueBonnet. Lupine is the leguminous , or pea family plant that is richest in protein. Signalling peptides in skincare direct amino acid chains to intertwine and form collagen.Boosting collagen means wrinkles are reduced and skin is more volumized. The peptides also work synergistically with Niacinimide and Vitamin C to help even skin tone.
Glow Cream has Peptides
Lupine peptides (Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein)
One of the (relatively) newer darlings of plant-based active ingredients for skin care has earned itself the nickname 'botox in a bottle'.
'It' is actually a 'they', and they have the super-trendy name: Lupine Peptides.
Lupine peptides (INCI: Hydrolyzed Lupine Protein) is a blend of peptides sourced from lupine flower protein. The pentapeptides and hexapeptides work as a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor.
What does that mean?
Simply that they prevent the connective skin tissue breakdown that follows normal exposure to sunlight. In other words, lupine peptides help renew the outer layers of skin by stimulating production of collagen & elastin, giving the skin a younger look, and visibly reducing the depth of wrinkles.
And the Fourth Active ingredient is Bakuchiol.
This a plant based retinol alternative that helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.which we have a 2% concentration of in the Concentrate.
Let's recap the Biology of Glow and how Dermresults helps us achieve it.
First of all- in order for our efficacious ingredients to penetrate our skin- we need to remove dirt and debris.
That is why we have the Glow Cleanser, which is a gentle cream to foam formula that will clean deeply without stripping your skin.
Then our Four Glow Goals are
- Smooth Skin
- Healthy Cells
- Even skin tone
- Plump, elastic skin with diminished fine lines and wrinkles.
The Biology of Glow
So how do we deliver this to you?
Smooth Skin? Niacinimide in the Glow Concentrate.
Healthy Cells? Vitamin C in the Cleanser, Glow Concentrate and Cream.
Even Skin Tone? Niacinimide in the Glow Cream.
Plump Elastic Skin with diminished fine lines and wrinkles?
Cleanser, Drops and Cream!
How to use the DermResults Starter Trio.
Step One is the Smoothing Glow Cleanser
This luxurious cream-to-foam cleanser gently removes impurities and
makeup, and won’t strip your skin of moisture. Like all the products in this
line, it contains stabilized Vitamin C.
The cleanser also contains red clover, watercress and cucumber to soothe
and comfort your skin, so you can even use it around your eyes and lips.
(Dampen skin and with damp fingers rub a pea sized amount of cleanser
into a lather. Massage in gentle circular motions all over your face and
neck for about a minute. Rinse well with water and pat dry.)
Step Two is the Illuminating Skin Therapy Concentrate
With 15% stabilized Vitamin C, 2% Bakuchiol (that’s a plant-based, gentler
alternative to the harsher wrinkle relaxer Retin-A prescribed by so many
dermatologists) and 1% Ferulic Acid (a high-powered antioxidant), the Skin
Therapy Concentrate is one of our hero products. Using just a few drops
daily can, over time, significantly combat the visible signs of aging - the
wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots - for a more vibrant, youthful
complexion.
(Squeeze 2 to 3 water-weight drops into your palm, morning and night,
and apply with fingertips around your face, neck, or décolleté.)
And Step 3 -the final step- is the Glow Cream
This rich, hydrating cream features ingredients clinically shown to support
a smoother and more luminous complexion when paired with the
Illuminating SkinTherapy Concentrate. These glow-enhancing ingredients
include stabilized Vitamin C, Niacinamide (a.k.a. vitamin B-3) and White
Lupine Lipopeptides (which can protect against damage and premature
aging).
Use morning and night for the ultimate glow!
(You are going to use a fingernail sized scoop and apply it to your middle
finger. Tap your middle fingers together, and apply in an upward motion
towards the hairline.)
So that is your DermResults Starter Kit- a simple but innovative 3 step
system for glowing skin.
And if you want to really turbocharge your skin care regime, here are a few other options:
Toner
A toning mist is great to prime the skin by hydrating and balancing the pH
prior to applying the Skin Therapy Concentrate. We recommend either our
AgeWell Refreshing Toning Mist or our BrightenUp Illuminating Toner.
(Use 2-3 spritzes directly to your face and neck)
Eye Cream
Any eye cream can be paired with the DermResults Regimen, depending
upon your skin needs or concerns. We recommend using AgeWell
Enriching Eye Cream or BrightenUp Eye Cream.
(Use your ring finger to dab a small amount right on your occipital bone. A
little dab will do ya.)
DermPads
As an optional Step Two, after washing your face, you can add these great
resurfacing pads to your routine morning or night. They promote
exfoliation of dull dead skin cells to expose a healthier, smoother, more
radiant complexion.
(After cleansing, wipe a moistened pad gently in an upward motion all
over your face. If you have extra, don’t waste it, use it on your neck , chest
or the back of your hands.)
( Note: The pads are glycolic acid and the DermResults concentrate contains Bakuchiol. They can be too intense to be used together.
Tip: use the HydrateMe serum after the pads to rehydrate the skin and top it off with Nourishing Facial Oil.)
SPF
Glow Cream was formulated without SPF so it could be used as both a
daytime and nighttime moisturizer. We offer plenty of other great products
that range from SPF 15 to 30 in a variety of moisturizers and cosmetic
products, depending upon skin needs, and we’ll be happy to make
recommendations.
