Grateful To Be A Royal
Dear Quist Middle School parents and guardians,
I am thrilled to congratulate our exceptional students who have excelled and earned their well-deserved place on the honor roll for 1st quarter. Your scholar's dedication, commitment to learning, and academic achievement are truly phenomenal!
The honor roll signifies not only exceptional academic performance but also embodies the values of perseverance, discipline, and a passion for knowledge. These students have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their studies, setting an example for their peers and future Royals.
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of Grade Point Average (GPA) in shaping a student's educational journey. GPA reflects not just a number but a culmination of consistent effort, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to go above and beyond in academics. It serves as a crucial measure of academic success and often opens doors to various opportunities for higher education and beyond.
Encouraging and supporting our students in maintaining a healthy GPA isn't solely about achieving numbers; it's about fostering a mindset of continuous learning, embracing challenges, and striving for excellence in all endeavors. We, as a community, play an integral role in nurturing and guiding our students toward achieving their academic potential. At Quist, we want every scholar to RISE to and through the CROWN! #RISEToTheCrown
To the parents and guardians, I extend my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and encouragement in nurturing these bright minds. Your partnership in their educational journey is invaluable and greatly contributes to their success.
As we celebrate the achievements of our honor roll recipients, let us also reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture that values academic excellence and supports every student in reaching their fullest potential.
We will be celebrating our scholars at 8:45 a.m. on December 8 in the cafeteria with hot chocolate and marshmallows. This will be students only. We will be celebrating our 2nd quarter honor roll students after winter break.
With appreciation,
Justin McMillan

Cell Phone Policy
No Cell Phones - 8:35 a.m. - 4:37 p.m.
In the interest of our student's health, safety, and education, we will require every student to leave his or her phone turned off and in their locker or leave them at home. Students must keep their turned off phones in their locker or at home between 8:35 a.m. and 4:37 p.m.
This also includes lunch/recess.
We feel this decision will support our goal to build and maintain a positive school culture and community for our students. Like many schools in the U.S., we are struggling with school bullying and student distraction with cell phones.
Science and research supports students who do not have the freedom of accessing their phones during school hours, are more engaged socially and academically. https://www.awayfortheday.org/research/
There is also growing concern about the long-term impact of cell phone/technology use on brain development and healthy social emotional development.
We realize this decision may make some families nervous, however parents can communicate to their child any time of day through the front office. Students will be able to access their phones at 4:37 pm
Violations to device expectations are as follows:
Mr. McMillan will give a reminder/warning at the start of every day during announcements.
After that, the device will be confiscated by the staff member and turned in to the office. Parents will have to pick up the device in the office.
