PHS Junior Places 1st At NYC Invitational Speech & Debate Tournament
Angelina Liu won 1st Place in Informative Speaking at the 54th New York City Invitational, held at Bronx High School of Science from October 18 - 20, 2024. She also earned her first bid for the Tournament of Champions (TOC), which will take place at the University of Kentucky in April 2025.
Angelina, a junior, presented her speech titled "Nacho Ordinary Material." The 10-minute speech highlights the new era of lunar exploration and the 21st century space race that is yet to unfold. With the discovery of valuable lunar minerals, major global powers are rapidly initiating plans for engineering lunar bases for astronauts to inhabit in the very near future. Drawing parallels to the 1960s Space Race and the Cold War, the speech outlines the modern quest for lunar dominance that continues to shape scientific innovation and international politics.
The New York City Invitational is one of the largest and most competitive high school speech and debate tournaments in the country, with over 500 competitors. Congratulations to Angelina and her coach, Chris Berdnik!
Long Orange Line Inspires Future Members
Pennsbury High School’s renowned Long Orange Line Marching Band recently brought their musical talents to Oxford Valley Elementary, Penn Valley Elementary, Charles Boehm Middle, Pennwood Middle, and William Penn Middle Schools for special performances. During each visit, the band showcased individual sections, allowing students to hear the unique sounds of each instrument. Adding to the excitement, one lucky student from each school was chosen to serve as Drum Major for a song! These visits offered a thrilling preview for future members of the Long Orange Line, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Live from Pennsbury... It's Thursday Night Live!
On Thursday, October 24, The Cave at Pennsbury High School was filled with laughter as students showcased their creativity in Thursday Night Live!, an entirely student-written, produced, and directed sketch show inspired by Saturday Night Live. This beloved event, now in its ninth year, serves as a fundraiser to support Thespian Troupe 830’s trip to the PA State Thespian Conference, while also giving back to the community. In addition to supporting the troupe, attendees contributed canned goods to be donated to Pennsbury’s food pantry, which helps provide essentials to students in need.
The production was a collaborative effort led by student producers Emma Pepe and Charlie Block, along with a talented team of writers and directors: Charlie Block, Emily Carlin, Ty Decker, Khloe Emmett, Nina Evon, Jason Kaplan, Juliet Labreque, Maddie Levy, Jacob Mackinnon, Athena Matthes, Christian Michael, Liz Pelkey, Emma Pepe, Maz Rambam, Nathan Vereb, and Avigail Wus. Thespian Troupe 830 received guidance from Director Damari Fallacaro, Assistant Director Olivia Schanbacher, and Costume Designer Ruth Schanbacher.
This year’s Thursday Night Live! was a heartwarming celebration of Pennsbury’s commitment to creativity and community support, making a difference both onstage and off.

Striking a Chord at Pennwood
Seventh-grade students at Pennwood Middle School tackled the ukulele this week in their general music class with Mr. Trezise. Superintendent Dr. Smith also joined in on the fun, showing off his own musical skills!
Learning an instrument like the ukulele has so many benefits for our students! It helps develop creativity, improves focus, and enhances problem-solving skills. Plus, it’s a great way to build self-confidence and relieve stress. These budding musicians are not only having fun but also strengthening important skills that will last a lifetime!
Behind the Mic: PHS Students Take on the Art of Podcasting"
Students in Mrs. Hauser's Social Media and Marketing course at Pennsbury High School are getting creative by launching their very own podcasts! From brainstorming content to recording and editing, these future media pros are learning the ins and outs of podcast production.
Social Media and Marketing is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to plan, create, and implement effective social media and digital marketing campaigns for small businesses, corporations, government agencies, or non-profit organizations.
Fall Festival at Village Park Academy
Students from Pennsbury High School’s Village Park Academy teamed up with fellow students enrolled in PHS's Preschool Academy course to create a fun fall festival for PreK Counts students!
The older students set up a pumpkin patch and helped the little ones pick out the perfect pumpkin, which they decorated together. The fall fun didn’t stop there – the PreK students also had a blast creating colorful chalk drawings on the blacktop, while the sounds of festive Halloween tunes filled the courtyard. To top it all off, everyone enjoyed a delicious autumn treat of caramel apples – the perfect snack for a day filled with fun and creativity!
A big thank you to our high school students and teachers for making this day extra special for our little ones!

Green Team’s ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ Pumpkins Show Energy’s Two Sides
The Charles Boehm Green Team is putting a unique spin on renewable and non-renewable energy with a Jekyll and Hyde-inspired pumpkin display! Each pumpkin embodies the "two sides" of energy—renewable and non-renewable—capturing their contrasting "personalities" in fun, artistic designs. Just like Dr. Jekyll, renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower are seen as friendly and sustainable, while non-renewables like coal and oil, like Mr. Hyde, have a darker side, emitting pollution and eventually running out. These decorated pumpkins in their display case tell the story of energy’s dual nature, showing how choosing the right source can impact our planet.
10th Annual JAM on the Hill at Edgewood
Edgewood Elementary students and staff came together on their playground to participate in their 10th annual JAM on the Hill event. This year, they used the Morning Meeting format to support the district initiative. The school-wide activity promotes the use of brain breaks, boosters and mindful minutes in the classroom. The JAM was designed using greeting, sharing, a morning message from Mrs. Mooney, and of course a group activity.
Brain breaks are exercises that students participate in all classrooms throughout the school day to encourage the crossing over of the midline of the body to energize or calm the brain. Movement acts to motivate the brain and helps to anchor learning. Activity and movement also add to a positive classroom climate and help to lower stress in students, ultimately increasing the ability to achieve academically and socially. This event was led by Edgewood's fifth grade Fuel Up To Play60 students. This year's event was a super-size version of the responsive classroom and morning meeting. At the conclusion of the event, students were dismissed via a mindful dismissal to encourage a calm, safe, and respectful return to the classroom to begin their day.
Autumn Leaves Come to Life in Art Class
At Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School, second grade students were hard at work creating beautiful fall leaves in Mrs. Brody's art class! 🍁🍃🍂
Disc Golf at Walt Disney
This week, Walt Disney Elementary School students concluded their Physical Education disc golf unit with a 6-hole course in the beautiful fall weather. Students from K-5 participated in indoor putting challenges as well as the outdoor course on the school's recess yard. 2nd - 5th grade students also learned how to keep score and tracked their team's strokes on their scoresheet. Some of our students took their love of the game to Tyler State Disc Golf Course and played a round with their friends and family members!
