Teacher & Staff Apprecaition Week
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is this week. As you know, we have an incredibly caring and wonderful staff at Twain. In addition to supporting our students' academic growth, our staff is also working s hard to support our students' individual social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
As we prepare for Appreciation Week, I encourage you to work with your children to pick at least one member of the staff who is making a difference in their life. Then send that staff member an email, have your child draw a picture, send in a card, etc., to let them know. These small gestures take just a few minutes and mean SO MUCH to our deserving teachers, office staff, custodians, support staff, and lunch aides.
Please find a a couple printable cards linked below for your convenience.

Congratulations to April's ROCKStars! These students have been recognized for being Responsible & Respectful , Organized, Cooperative, Kind, and Safe throughout the month. Mrs.Szeliga''s 2nd-grade class also won the Golden Trash Can Award for the cleanest room. Keep up the outta this world behavior, Comets!
Congratulations, Rocco Karas!
I wanted to follow up and recognize a student athlete from Mark Twain Elementary. This past month, he represented Fraser schools with the Fraser Wrestling at the wrestling state Finals, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He has shown true sportsmanship on and off the mat. We are very proud of Rocco Karas, as he took 3rd place for his age and weight class! Outstanding performance! And job well done! Let’s congratulate him on all of his hard work.

M-STEP Testing Concludes
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The tentative assessment dates for M-Step are as follows:
4th Grade
Monday, May 5 - Math (rescheduled due to power outage)
3rd Grade
Tuesday, May 6 - Math
Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
Also, due to recent updates in State testing procedures, cell phones, smart watches, and any bluetooth device (including headphones) MUST be secured during testing. We encourage students to leave these devices home on testing days when possible. When not possible, devices will be powered down and secured during testing
The Band Sounds Great
On Thursday, May 1st the gymnasium at Fraser High School was packed as families enjoyed the sounds of district 5th & 6th -grade band students. It's amazing how much they have gown this year and we truly appreciate Mrs. Krantz & Mrs. Fleming for all their hard work planning such a wonderful showcase of student talent.
Field Day is Coming
This year Twain's Field Day will take place on Wednesday, May 28th with a rain date scheduled for Thursday, May 29th. Only parents that volunteer in-advance (see below) and pass a background check will be able to attend the event. Also, be on the lookout for a text or email on the morning of the event should we have to cancel due to the weather.
A few reminders:
- Students should bring a refillable water bottle with their name on it.
- Students should wear comfortable clothing and shoes, sunglasses or a hat, and sunscreen.
- We are also encouraging students to bring extra shirt/clothes due to the water games.
Thanks,
Mr. Mette

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
- Please do not park in Handicap parking without a permit.
- The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
