Archived Fourth Grade Flyer
For 4th grade Students & Parents of Bill Burden Elementary
January 3rd - January 6th
Welcome Back!
We hope everyone had a restful and recharging break, filled with family and fun for the holidays. We are now in the year 2017! We have some important events coming up in January that you won't want to miss! Check back here each week to see what's new.
Ring in the New Year Run!
Due to weather, the Ring in the New Year Run has been postponed until March 10th. Time will be announced later.
Skating 101 Starts January 13th!
Math
In Math, we are continuing with adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators, including benchmark fractions such as 0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1. We will also practice converting mixed to improper fractions (1&1/2 = 3/2), and vice versa. Soon we will start exploring equivalent fractions (1/2 = 2/4) and comparing fractions with unlike denominators (3/4 > 2/8). Did you know three out of two people have trouble with fractions?
Science & Social Studies
In Science, we are starting a new unit on identifying and classifying Earth's renewable and nonrenewable resources. The importance of conservation will also be discussed. Why is wind power popular? Because it has a lot of fans!
In Social Studies, we will begin studying settlement patterns in the Republic of Texas. We will also examine the development of transportation, including railroads, in Texas.
Reading & Writing
In ELA this week there will be NO Spelling List. We will begin planning and prewriting on a new Expository composition topic. In Reading, we will be focusing on structural elements of a text, summarizing, and sequencing. Just remember, punctuation saves lives: "Let's eat, Grandma!" or "Let's eat grandma!" Your choice.
Transportation Change Procedure
All Bill Burden transportation changes will be submitted via email to bbestransportationchanges@libertyhill.txed.net
