Potato Book Character Event
A Celebration of Diverse Readers
Read Across America
March 2nd is Read Across America Day! This year we are moving away from only recognizing the amazing work of Theodor Seuss Geisel to recognize all literature and celebrate our nation of diverse readers. This year we will celebrating in the LRC with a Potato Book Character Showcase!
Rules for this voluntary showcase are as follows:
- Decorate a potato as your favorite book character. It can be any character from any book. It does not need to be from a Dr. Seuss book or even a book we have available for checkout at Congress Park but your character DOES need to be from a BOOK.
- You may use any materials you wish but it must contain at least one real potato. You may use more than one potato if you wish.
- Be sure to attach a tag containing character name and book as well as your name and grade.
- Bring it to our LRC on Monday, March 4 or Tuesday, March 5th for display. (No Sooner than these dates!)
- Potatoes will be sent back home on Friday, March 8th.
Fun Fact
The first Read Across America Day was March 2, 1998. This day was purposely chosen because it is Theodor Geisel’s birthday. When the NEA wanted to create a day to encourage children to read, it only made sense to pick the day Dr. Seuss was born.
