MAY ACTIVITIES
CHARIOT RACES
We are hosting our annual chariot races on May 8th. This year's games will incorporate physical fitness activities, the Sophomore/Junior push chariot race, and the Freshmen pull chariot race. In addition to an obstacle course. Students in the Engineering classes have been building the chariots to be used in the races.

- Please reach out to your school for your student's access codes to create an account.
- Parents/guardians must have email to create an account.
- A student can have 2 parent/guardian accounts using the same access codes.
- Each student has a unique set of codes.
- Parents need all their students' access codes to create and link students to their accounts.
CELL PHONE POLICY UPDATE
CMSD is Cellphone Free
Starting September 3rd, we assigned Yondr pouches to each student. Students are responsible for bringing their pouch back and forth to school. Letters were given to students on 8-30-24 explaining the change and the student code of conduct pages referencing the district's cell phone policy. CLASS OF 2025
Graduation Requirements for Class of 2025
Take and earn a minimum of 22 credits in specified subjects and take required tests. Students must also receive economics and financial literacy instruction and complete at least two semesters of fine arts.
Second:
Show competency by earning a passing score on Ohio’s high school Algebra I and English II tests. Additional options are available for those students who do not test well.
Third:
Show readiness by earning two diploma seals that align with the student's interests and goals. These seals allow the student to demonstrate academic, technical, and professional skills and knowledge that align with their passions, interests, and planned next steps after high school.

John Marshall Campus PROM NIGHT
Prom is Saturday, May 10th. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 10th. Tickets are $70 and we only accept cash or money order as payment.
The following expectations are required to purchase tickets:
- No level 2 offense from March 3, 2025 - May 9, 2025 (Refer to the CMSD Student Code of Conduct Handbook)
- 0 suspensions from March 3, 2025 - May 9, 2025
- The student must be on track for graduation (credits & OST)
- Passing all courses
- Community service hours must be on track towards completion
- Outside guests must follow the same guidelines and must be 20 years of age or younger
- After-school detentions served*
*Students will not be sold prom tickets if they have pending detention(s). If they are given a detention after ticket purchase, the student will be placed on hold until the detention is served.
**Students who commit a violation that prohibits them from attending prom, WILL NOT be refunded funds from purchasing prom tickets.
John Marshall School of Engineering Commencement
Commencement for John Marshall School of Engineering is Saturday, May 24th at 10:00 am at John Marshall High School in the gymnasium. Each senior will receive 10 tickets.
Graduation practice is May 19th & 22nd at 8:30 am. Practice is mandatory. Tickets and caps/gowns will be given out at the 2nd practice.
The following expectations are required for commencement:
- The student must have met ALL graduation requirements as required by the Ohio Department of Education and Cleveland Metropolitan School District
- All community service hours must be completed
- Senior dues paid in full
- Any student financial obligation are paid
- Student MUST PARTICIPATE in all graduation practices
- Student should be dressed in appropriate graduation attire as outline by the school
- No Level 2 offenses or higher (Refer to the CMSD Student Code of Conduct Handbook)
Note: If a student is not eligible to walk at commencement, but is eligible for graduation, the student WILL still be considered a graduate and will receive their diploma with all of the rights and privileges of every other graduate.
COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS PROGRAMS
MAGNET Summer Manufacturing Academy Program Applications are Open!
MAGNET is now accepting applications for their Summer Manufacturing Academy (SMA) program. Scholars can earn $13.50/hr., and with the recent approval as a pre-apprenticeship program by the state, rising 11th and 12th graders can earn 12 credits toward graduation! Say Yes Cleveland is in survey season. We want to ensure that we are serving the needs of our students and you...our families.
The surveys allow Family Support Specialists to identify needs by minimizing and/or removing barriers that prevent our students from achieving their potential.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
CMSD DISTRICT NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS
The Family Engagement Committee is primarily responsible with providing insight and leadership support with parent and community engagement throughout the year. This core team of individuals would interface with the School Parent Organization or the Parent Advisory Committee on a regular basis and with the FACE Coordinator as needed.
The Family Engagement Committee:
- Provide insight and leadership support with parent and community engagement activities throughout the year.
- Will collaborate with the School Parent Organization (SPO), Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), Community Partners and FACE Coordinator.
- Plan and execute activities that support the connection between family engagement and instructional core.
An exemplar FEC is one that is comprised of various meaningful stakeholders that are truly vested in the family engagement process. Identify those key persons that you believe are actively able to connect with families to support scholars.
At minimum, the FEC needs to include:
- Building Administrator
- FACE Coordinator
- Parent Ambassador (if applicable) or Parent Representative
- Teacher

Become a Parent Ambassador!
CMSD is hiring Parent Ambassadors to support all our schools.
This position is part-time (15 to 25 hours a week), you must be a parent or legal guardian of a child currently enrolled at Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and engaged at your child's school. It pays $15 an hour.
Please speak to your school administrator about your desire to apply for this position.

DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS
- All students are encouraged to dress in a manner that is appropriate, comfortable, and conducive to an active academic school day.
- Students should be able to wear clothing without fear of or actual unnecessary discipline or body shaming.
- The student dress code should serve to support all students to develop a body-positive self-image.
- The district standard dress and appearance policy is gender neutral and applies to all students equally regardless of gender on school campuses and at school-sponsored functions and will be enforced consistently and fairly by all members of the school staff.
Examples of inappropriate clothing include:
- clothing where the buttocks or torso is exposed
- clothing that is see-through (clothing must be opaque)
- clothing or accessories that show obscene words or pictures, sexually suggestive statements, violence, or incitement to violence
- clothing representing gang-related activities
- clothing where the entire thigh is exposed
- bathing suits or cut-offs
- the wearing and carrying of tobacco promotional items, or items promoting controlled substances (drugs) and/or alcohol
- clothing where undergarments are exposed
- clothing that has text or visual images that is libelous, bullying, constitutes harassment or discrimination
- backless or open-toe footwear (footwear must be worn at school and all functions)

FAMILY RESOURCES & OPPORTUNITIES
Attendance matters...
Each day your child is not in school is a missed opportunity to learn something they will need in order to understand more difficult material later. Help your child succeed in their future. Make sure they are in school every day.
Call United Way’s 2-1-1 line for help with basic needs
United Way of Greater Cleveland’s 2-1-1 HelpLink is a free, anonymous referral service that handles calls from those who need help accessing resources such as housing support, utility assistance, mental health services, food, and much more.
Using United Way's 2-1-1 HelpLink is a simple, friendly, free, and confidential experience. People in need of assistance call 2-1-1 and one of United Way's 2-1-1 navigation specialists will ask a series of questions.
The navigation specialists develop customized plans using a database of more than 16,000 government, health, and human services programs.
Depending on the program, the navigation specialist follows up with the caller after a few hours or days to ensure the information provided was accurate and accessible.
Those who wish to do so can also chat online with a 2-1-1 navigation specialist by visiting https://www.211oh.org/.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, 2-1-1 has received more than 200,000 calls.
Callers who are seeking vaccination-related resources, referrals, and assistance can call 2-1-1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and select option 3 to speak directly with a staff member trained to provide the information. During extended hold times, callers can select a callback feature.
