First, please join us for the Special Education Department's Family Engagement Night on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 5:30-6:30 pm at the ESC Building (775 Marion Rd, York, PA). This event will focus on transition opportunities for students who learn differently, with insights from community agencies, post-secondary programs, and our Transition Coordinator, Shelley Warfield.
With the end of the trimester approaching, now is a great time to check on your child’s progress. Please take a moment to review grades and assignments to ensure they’re on track.
And don’t miss our Classroom Spotlights by the Panther Pen staff – a great look into the exciting work happening in CYMS classrooms!
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.

PUMPKIN MADNESS
Mr. Heisey, Mr. Santoro, and Mr. Sapir decided to celebrate Halloween in a way that only science teachers would - they blew up pumpkins. The students from their classes went outside on October 31st and were able to watch a cool demonstration of pumpkins exploding.
PRODUCTIVE FLEX TIME
Using the end of the day flex period, students use the time to get a head start on homework and work on different subjects. This time is greatly beneficial to complete missing assignments, too.

SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE
Does Your Child Want to BE in the BEE?
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is a prestigious annual competition held in Washington D.C., and this year, the champion will take home a $50,000 cash prize! To compete at the national level, students must first qualify through school and state spelling bees.
At Central York Middle School, we will hold our 2024 Spelling Bee on Tuesday, November 26th. For your child to BE in the CYMS Bee, they must be one of our top 30 spellers, determined by a qualifying exam in their Language Arts class on Friday, October 18th. Study guides for the exam will be provided by their English Language Arts (ELA) teacher.
Students who qualify will be excused from classes on the day of the CYMS Bee to compete for a chance to advance to the state competition. From there, they could have the opportunity to move on to the national stage and compete for the $50,000 prize!
Encourage your child to study hard and best of luck to all our future spellers!

FAMILY FIRST HEALTH (FFH) MOBILE SCHOOL DENTAL PROGRAM
The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires a dental screening for all children on original entry into school, then again in grades three and seven. If you haven’t submitted a private dental report for your child, your child’s mandated dental screening requirement can be completed at school with the Family First Health (FFH) Mobile School Dental Program. On November 20th, Central York Middle School will provide an opportunity for seventh-grade students to participate in dental screenings that fulfill the mandated requirement. This exam is a visual screening using a mirror and explorer. The results will be sent home with children to inform parents of concerns. There is no cost to families. If you haven’t submitted a private dental report for your child, we encourage you to consider having your child participate in our in-school dental screening. If interested, please review and return the attached form by Friday, November 15th, to ensure your child's participation.
Thank you for making your child’s dental health a top priority. If you have questions, please
contact CYMS’s nursing office at 717-846-6789, x1520 or bkopelic@cysd.k12.pa.us.
Respectfully,
Becky Kopelic BSN, RN, CSN Certified School Nurse
