December's Principal's Message with Mrs. Lango
Dear CAS Families,
The holidays are quickly approaching and there is a lot of excitement in the air. To add to the fun Steam Day was a huge success! Your children took part in a school-wide event that had each classroom use a catapult that they had been working on for a few weeks. Together we celebrated their creativity and ingenuity as they launched stuffed bulldogs. They then rotated around the building completing many hands-on activities that stretched their problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Ask your child what they enjoyed most.
Today's success was a great team effort on behalf of our staff, the PTSA, our CAS families and the Hamburg High School Future Teacher's club. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, as well as donated an incredible amount to the SPCA. Check out our Instagram page for pictures!
The annual HHS Junior Class Toy Drive will begin on 12/2 and run through 12/18. Also, HHS would like to thank you for donating over $500 to their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
STEAM Day, the Toy Drive and the Thanksgiving Food Drive are just some of the ways that make Hamburg a great place to live and learn. Thank you!

Nurse's Notes- Ms. Lamantia
Sometimes it can be difficult to make the decision about when you should keep your kiddos home. Our school policy states that you should not send your child to school if he/she has:
- Fever in the past 24 hours - Must be fever free for 24 hours without medication
- Vomiting in the past 24 hours
- Diarrhea in the past 24 hours
- Chills
- Sore throat
- Strep throat (must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school)
- Bad cold, with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night
- Head lice
- Pink eye - Must be on medicated eye drops for 24 hours
Remember if your little Bulldog will be staying home email us at CAS@hcsdk12.org to let us know.

November was another fun and exciting month at CAS. Our CAS students raised $510 to donate to the Hamburg High School Thanksgiving Drive. The high school was extremely thankful for how much our students raised. The students made a donation and then dressed up in red, white and blue to show support for veterans. Many classes also made cards to show the veterans how much they are appreciated. These cards were given to local veterans.
I have started going into all of the kindergarten and 1st grades classes to teach the Zones of Regulations. I will continue to do this throughout the year. Students are learning all about their feelings and emotions. They will continue to learn about how to recognize how others are feeling through facial expressions and body language, as well as, how to regulate their own emotions. I absolutely love spending time in the classroom and watching them grow and develop.
In December I will continue to go into kindergarten through 5th grade with the Let Grow program. This month we will be focusing on service and helping out around the house. I have listed several suggestions for your child/children to start working on. You can use one of these or come up with your own. I am looking forward to hearing from your children what they have tried. When a child completes a task let me know. I can take a picture in front of the wings in our main hallway. I am looking forward to hearing from your children what they have tried and how it went. Remember it is not about perfection, just that they tried something on their own. I absolutely love spending time in the classroom and watching them grow and develop.
