I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing Thanksgiving break! I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to work with your children each day, watching them learn and grow into remarkable individuals. As we transition into December, we look forward to an exciting and productive month as we wrap up Term 2 in just a few weeks. We are eager to welcome all students and staff back on campus tomorrow, Monday, December 2nd.

WINTER BREAK December 25-January 6

Students will begin our Middle of the Year MAP Screening on December 9th. Please refer to the schedule below:

Dec. 9-10: 5th and 6th grades Reading

Dec. 12-13: 5th grade Science

Dec. 16-17: 5th and 6th grades Math

MAP Growth scores help teacher check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Following the screening period, a Family Report will be available in Skyward. For more information about MAP Growth, visit the NWEA Family Toolkit.

When schools give students access to devices and online accounts, an incredible world of learning opportunities opens up — as well as potential dangers. Digital safety is critically important to Draper Intermediate, which is why we are now using Bark for Schools to help us protect our students both online and in real life.

Bark monitors for signs of potential issues like:

● Cyberbullying

● Suicidal ideation

● Sexual predators

● Threats of violence

● And more

Alerts at the first signs of danger When possible dangers arise on school-issued accounts, Bark for Schools sends us alerts so we can address the situation in a timely manner. These alerts also give us insights that help us promote the wellness of the entire student body. Sign up to get alerts with Parent Portal Kids use their school-issued accounts both at school and at home, and families are often in a better position to respond to urgent alerts after hours, on weekends, and during breaks. Earlier this year, you received an invitation to create your free account for the Bark for Schools Parent Portal. As soon as you opt-in, you receive after-hours alerts if Bark detects potentially time-sensitive issues.

On Wednesday, December 4, all students will participate in the Achievment Profile in their social studies classes. Additional relationship building activities will occur in their other classes.

We are looking forward to celebrating our wonderful students for all their hard work throughout the second term on Friday, December 20th!

Patriot Pride Assembly times:

• 5th grade at 10:30 in the gym

If your child is being recognized, then you should hear from his/her teacher.

This is also early release day. Students will dismiss at 1:30.

We know that December is a busy time. As a reminder, here are the lunch times at Draper.

On Thursday afternoons, Study Squad is available from 3:30-5:00 in the cafeteria. Students can come to ask questions and get support of our professional staff on any learning for all content areas. It is also a time for students to complete missing or late work with the support of our teachers.

In an effort to have tutorial support for students each morning and afternoon, each team has a representative available from 7:45-8:15 and 3:30-4:15. The chart below shares who is available and when. Students can go to ANY session for support; they do not have to attend with their teacher.
