Weekly Update
October 18, 2024
From the Principal
Dear Aquin Families,
We have come to the end of the first quarter! Time sure does fly when you are having fun! Our students have made such good progress, and we are looking forward to sharing it with you at Parent Teacher Conferences next week.
With the weather changing almost daily, it is important that students have several layers of clothes available at school. An Aquin sweater or sweatshirt are a part of the uniform, and we encourage the students to have one every day during the Fall weather patterns. It is also time to put away the shorts. We will return to shorts in the spring.
One more reminder about the uniform is shoes. We do not want students to wear crocs, sandals, flip flops or boots. These tend to slide off their feet or have very slippery bottoms which can be hazardous on the stairs and at recess. Boots may be changed into for recess, but students should have a regular pair of shoes for during the school day. We also have a rash of students that have difficulty keeping shoes tied. There are some shoelaces that are slippery and difficult to keep tied. I would encourage you to look for elastic shoelaces (Walmart, Amazon, etc.) if your child struggles with this. They were a life saver for me with my own children! They are also safer than open shoelaces.
This week we had a visit from the fire department to discuss fire safety. Hopefully the kids went home and asked about your evacuation plan for home in the event of a fire. The fire department also brought the smokehouse and had the students practice climbing out a window. We appreciate them coming and sharing this information with us.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week focuses on drug/alcohol abuse prevention, and we have some spirit days planned to go along with our activities. Check the calendar for each day. Monday is Red, White and Blue day!
We have our Halloween activity tonight at 4:30 for families. I hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Heitkamp
