Hello BCJA Families,
The year is moving along. Please be reminded of the following things below and take a look at the new information included in remaining portion of the newsletter.
We are constantly monitoring this process to tweak or make adjustments to better the program. Please continue to provide constructive feedback to us so that we can provide the best online educational experience possible.
As many are aware, we are quickly moving into the fall season. Medical experts and authorities have predicted that our current health crisis will continue or may get worse with the addition of the seasonal flu. We are monitoring this situation as well. There may be recommendations leading to a decision to return to a completely virtual model. Please continue to check your email for updates. BCJA is committed to keeping our students, families, faculty, and staff safe.
STAR Assessments
Upon arrival, only the students will be allowed to enter the BCJA hallway and classrooms. NO parents or visitors will be permitted past the lobby area. Parents can choose to wait in the lobby or in the parking lot. Students must be picked up after their exam so that the teachers can sanitize and clean before the next student(s).
Each students should bring their earphones, ipad and keyboard for testing. We will have scratch paper and pencils available. However, it is recommended that students bring their own. We also have package and sealed earphones available.
Regular instruction will continue. Teachers will make arrangements for anything missed during a student's testing time.
For those who have requested the virtual testing option, please check your email for further instructions.
Teachers and staff will be reviewing the data to provide an academic plan of action for your child moving forward. Results will be explained and distributed individually over the coming weeks. Please be patient with us as this is a very concentrated but necessary process.
Grandparents Day
Many have asked for a recording of the program. It is now available and can be viewed and shared using the link below. Thanks again for your unwavering support of BCJA

iPad Tips & Updates
BCJA is constantly pushing out mass updates to all iPads using our device management system. These updates should eradicate many of the technical issues. Changes include addition of new apps and updates to existing ones. This will continue to be a frequent action (usually occurring at midnight daily) as technology updates very rapidly. Please follow these steps to ensure that your child's iPad receives the necessary updates.
- Place iPad on the charger every night
- Make sure the iPad is connected to Wi-Fi
- Shut down and restart the iPad every weekend
- In settings-->General-->Software Update-->Customize Automatic Updates--> Select "Automatically update" for downloading and installing iPadOS updates
- The iPad's are capable of connecting to cellular data but we do not currently use this service. If you are receiving a message regarding this, please go to "settings-->cellular data--> turn off
Because the students and teachers are streaming for most of the day, the battery on the ipad will diminish quickly. For this reason, it is imperative that the ipads are charged to 100% nightly and during breaks where possible. It is difficult to charge the ipad while in use. Also, closing apps not in use on the ipad will help to preserve battery power.
Academic Tips for Virtual Learning
We understand that while your children are at home, you, the parents have to work and cannot always sit with your child. Here are a few organizational tools to help the students become more independent.
- Although we are virtual, students still need school supplies.
- Remind students to read and follow directions.
- If assignments or attachments are missing, please notify the teacher immediately.
- Make multiple copies of password sheets.
- Use the clock app on your child's iPad to set alarms for their class schedules. Set alarms 5 minutes earlier to allow for prep time.
- Have materials nearby so students can access them easily.
- Set up the charger with an extension cord in case the iPad charge gets low.
- Remind students that they can message the teacher in Google Classroom if they need help.
School Uniforms
Flynn O'Hara is our uniform vendor. The physical store just recently re-opened but they have plenty of online options. Sign up for their newsletter to obtain updates and discounts.
