Ridgeview Junior High
February 21st, 2025 Vol. 32

PRINCIPAL'S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Happy Friday Ridgeview families! Here are your weekly updates.
Final grades for the 3rd quarter will be completed by Mon March 10th, as the end of Q3 is March 7th. Final grades should be available to view in Infinite Campus to families by the end of that week. Please make sure your kiddos are completing assignments on time so they get credit towards their final grade. If you have questions about grades, assignments, etc please contact your student’s classroom teacher.
In order to give teachers time to complete quarter grades, there will be no school on Mon March 10th, as this is a teacher work day. This is the only day off for students in the month of March.
Tue March 11th is our Annual Culture Day! Our students have already started working hard with their performances, as well as booths that will be on display in the Aux gym. We’ve also added an evening where our families can come and preview the booth area, as well as see the performances. This will take place on the evening of Mon March 10th. Reminders will be sent out to families as we get closer. We hope that you’re able to join us on March 10th from 6-7:30 pm.
If parents are interested in summer programming for their student(s), this may be an opportunity for you to look into. Click here for more information.
Families are reminded of our building after school detention policy. Students are given a week from the day the detention is issued, to serve the detention. If the student does not serve within one week, a one day out of school suspension (OSS) will be assigned. This is aligned with the district Student Code of Conduct. Please be advised it doesn’t matter what day the detention is served, as long as it’s done within one week. After school detentions are held on Tue and Thur each week, unless otherwise noted. If parents have questions about our policy, please touch base with your grade level administrator.
Lastly, as we creep closer to the last quarter of this school year (unbelievable how fast the year is moving), continue to press upon your student about two things: Academics and Safety. This is the biggest stretch of the year. Students have had a tendency to get lax in the classroom. We need students to be as connected with teachers as they are with students and push through, even when it’s difficult, as this is the last push before the state test. This should be a stepping stone into high school for our 8th graders as well. Behaviors, whether in the classroom or other areas in the building, do have an affect on the overall building culture/safety. As we want to see smiling faces every day, we will also do what’s needed to ensure the overall safety of our building community (even if we have to send students home).
Take care everyone and we’ll see you again next week! GO TIGERS!
Important Dates:
March 7: End of Quarter 3!
March 10: Grading Window Closes / Teacher Work Day - NO SCHOOL
March 10: Culture Day Preview for Families.
March 11: Culture Day for Students.

The other adult must present a valid ID to office staff for the student to be released to them.
Personal Communication Devices:
Pick-up times for Personal Communication Devices will be Mon - Fri in the main office from 8:00 am - 1:45 pm and again from 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm as long as school is in session. The main office closes at 3:00 pm daily.
We’re collecting more devices daily. If your student has a device confiscated and it doesn’t belong to them, the person that it belongs to AS WELL AS the student who had it taken from will be added to our spreadsheet for a confiscated device. Please make a note of this.

Dear 6th grades families,
Starting on Tuesday, February 11th, junior high counselors and middle school counselors and teachers will begin sharing scheduling information with your student(s.) We will be sharing the Junior High Scheduling Hub with students on this day as well. Please plan on taking time that week February 11-18th to look over the hub with your student; there are videos and other documents to help them through the scheduling process. At the bottom of the scheduling hub is a Google Form where students and parents can submit questions to the administrators or counselors. However, we encourage you to attend one of the scheduling meetings before posting questions. The scheduling window closes on Monday, March 3rd for Ridgeview and March 7th for Lakeview. .
Attached is the scheduling timeline with the links to the virtual parent meetings. Please note that there are different meeting dates and links for Lakeview and Ridgeview. The meetings will be a brief overview of the scheduling process followed by a Q&A session with school counselors and administrators. The last meeting will be held February 18th at 6 - 7 pm, in person, at Ridgeview.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Junior High Principals: Ben Baptist (ben_baptist@plsd.us) for Lakeview and Sheila Evans (sheila_evans@plsd.us) for Ridgeview.

Spring Panorama Survey during P.A.W. - March 4th & 5th
Students will complete Panorama SEL Surveys during their P.A.W. time on Tuesday, March 4th, and Wednesday, March 5th.
The survey will provide social and emotional learning (SEL) information. SEL is the process through which children and adults apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. These are the skill sets that promote success in life.
While our goal is 100% participation, parents may choose not to have their child participate. If you prefer your child not to participate in this survey, please fill out the opt-out form below or email your child’s School Counselor by February 27, 2025.
One 7th & one 8th grade P.A.W. time class with the highest completion percentage will receive a special treat from Mrs. Evans! If there is a tie, a draw will be conducted.

HELP Make Our Schools Safer
The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety have launched the SaferOH tip line that will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts in the Ohio Homeland Security’s Threat Assessment and Prevention (TAP) Unit. When action is needed, the TAP Unit immediately forwards information to Pickerington Schools, local law enforcement agencies, and others, if necessary.
