Events & Reminders
October 15 & 16 | 3rd Grade OST
Starting on Tuesday, October 15th, all third-grade students will take the Ohio State Test for English Language Arts. The test will consist of two parts and will be given over two days. Students will have 90 minutes to complete each testing session.
- Part #1: Tuesday, October 15th
- Part #2: Wednesday, October 16th
The test is a requirement of the state of Ohio and is used to measure how students statewide are developing the knowledge and skills described in Ohio's Learning Standards. The results of the fall test are used to indicate if a child is on track or if they need additional support, prior to the test being administered again in the spring. The test results also help measure each public school and district’s performance, which is reflected on its annual Ohio School Report Card.
Below are some ways that you can support your child:
Encourage your child to take their time and do their best
Ensure they have adequate rest the night before testing
Make sure your child has an opportunity to eat breakfast (at home or at school)

Exploring Text Features
"Text Features! Text Features! Are you able to find them?" Ms. Winslow and Mrs. Reichle's classes have been hard at work identifying and interpreting information presented visually through charts, graphs, timelines, text boxes, and headings.
The students worked in groups to analyze how each text feature contributes to their understanding of the information the author is sharing. They learned the importance of reading the text and paying attention to the interesting details provided through various text features. By exploring text features, the students have gained a deeper comprehension of the material. They now recognize how these visual elements can enhance the meaning of a passage and help readers better absorb the content.
The classes are excited to continue their exploration of text features and discover new ways these tools can support their learning.
Haunted House for Sale
Ms. Rogerson's class demonstrated impressive creativity and imagination in designing their haunted houses, incorporating unique features like furniture made of spider webs, a pool filled with Halloween candy, and a fridge stocked with spooky treats. Following the writing process, the students crafted compelling sales pitches, paying close attention to detail to bring their houses to life. The final written pieces will be displayed in the hallway, allowing the students to share their creative work and engage potential buyers. Overall, the class showcased strong writing skills, creativity, and an eye for detail in this persuasive writing unit!
