Principal's Message
Dear Hilhi Families,
We have an exciting week as we begin Spartan Academy on Thursday and launch clubs on Friday. Spartan Academy is an enrichment time built into our schedule mid-day on Thursdays and Fridays. It gives students time to explore their interests, get help they need, and build community. Students get to choose from a list of fun academies throughout the year. Ask your Spartan what they signed up for - it should be in their email by mid-week.
Club kickoff on Friday during lunches offers a lot of food and opportunities to learn how to get involved at Hilhi. Students who wish to make purchases should bring cash to do so. Our regular free lunch will be available as well. We encourage all students to pick at least one club to join!
Finally, we have a home football game and after game dance on Friday. Our theme is Jaripeo/Rodeo (think boots, flannel and cowboy hats) for the game and dance on Friday. Details are below.
Please remember that we have no school on Monday, September 30, as it is a professional development day for staff. Enjoy the long weekend, students!
Sincerely,
Cary Meier
Principal
Football Game Guidelines
We want to remind students and families about protocols for high school sporting events:
Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult (18+).
High school students:
Must show their school-issued ID or StudentVUE class schedule to enter.
Can only attend contests in which their school is competing (HOA and Oak Street Campus students can attend athletic events for their home high school).
Admission will be charged for all spectators, except high school students with an ASB card.
The fields surrounding the stadiums are off limits. There is an expectation that you are in the stands watching the game, unless you are walking to the concession stand or restroom.
Positive and respectful cheering when your team does well, and treatment of players, coaches, officials, and the other team’s fans is expected at all times.
Not allowed: Backpacks, outside food/drink, bikes, skateboards, scooters, posters larger than 8.5x11 inches, booing, negative chants, name calling, homophobic or racist remarks.
Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone at our high school sporting events. Go Sparts!
Student Clothing Update:
We need your help! If a student’s clothing does not align with HSD’s Standards of Student Conduct (English, Spanish), the student will be asked to change their clothes.
For your reference, students may not wear anything advertising controlled or illegal substances.
- Students are not allowed to wear clothing advertising cannibus dispensaries (ex: "Cookies"), cannibus brands, marijuana leaves or paraphernalia.
- Clothing with the Playboy brand name or bunny logo are not allowed.
- Students may not wear clothing advertising brands of alcohol (for example Coors, Budweiser, etc).
Students are not allowed to wear clothing depicting weapons. This would include the brand SDL as they have a gun depicted in their logo design.
Students must wear shirts with straps to school.
Please refer to HSD’s Student Code of Conduct (English, Spanish) for more information. Specifically, “Students cannot wear violent language or images, images or language depicting drugs or alcohol (or any illegal item or activity), paraphernalia, or use of the same, or hate speech, profanity, pornography” (pg. 28).

Grade 9
HHS 9th Grade Level Team meets weekly to focus primarily on attendance and students’ individual barriers to improve their attendance to school and their classes. We follow the guidelines and research from the Chicago University to support our students to stay On Track for their High School Graduation from the beginning in grade 9. Here is an interesting article on this topic: Why does attendance matter in High School?
If your student will be absent due to illness, a medical appointment, or any other reason, please call Mrs. Nuria Pence our attendance secretary or leave a message in our attendance line 503.844.1990.
Our 9th Grade Level Team is here to serve you and your students. If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to us!

Online Verification & Fee Waiver - Due September 30th
Each year families are asked to verify student enrollment online through the ParentVue app. This ensures we have accurate contact information for your student and gives families the opportunity to complete the family income survey to request fee waivers. We'll have staff available at Spartan Days to troubleshoot ParentVue access.
The fee waiver request is new this year, as we are no longer able to automatically waive fees for all students. We ask that all families complete the form, especially if your child will be participating in athletics, activities or taking IB tests, as this is the only way to waive those fees.
College & Career
NEW COLLEGE AND CAREER PLANNING TOOL - Xello
The Hillsboro School District has a new tool to help students learn about various post graduation options. Xello is replacing Naviance as the platform students will use to create an education plan to help them meet their individual goals. Xello also provides families with more information and tools to support their students to meet these goals. Please click on the letter below to find out more about Xello.
Please update or change your email address in ParentVue in order to receive an invitation to create their Xello family account.
