Exhibit Columbus High School Design: Tunnel Vision
As featured on the Exhibit Columbus Website
The foundation of middle cities is based on rivers. These waterways shape how cities are formed and how they develop into the future. Tunnel Vision looks at how Columbus was formed as a middle city and how it can develop into a larger city. Just as rivers have a linear path, our geodesic tunnel is a linear experience that transports you through history.
Visitors enter the structure at the base of the “river”, represented in colored panels that tell a story of how Columbus revolutionized modern architecture. As visitors flow through the tunnel, informational videos, viewable by QR codes, teach guests about Columbus’ architecture. Columbus is expanding, and we created a video predicting possible changes to the city that will be made over time.
Our exhibit is not only a place to learn, but also an experience to be seen and a gathering place to enjoy. The tunnel focuses on the past, present, and future of architecture in Columbus.

A Special Message From Our Sister City Miyoshi, Japan
Columbus Sister City, Miyoshi, Japan, has sent a special message from their Mayor and Superintendent of Schools in celebration of the Columbus Area Bicentennial.
Our Sister City relationship with Miyoshi, Japan began July 5, 1994, with the signing of a cultural partnership agreement by Mayor Bob Stewart and Mayor Michio Tsukamoto. The formal resolution for the twinning was November 30, 1994.
Miyoshi City is located in the central part of Aichi prefecture, situated between Nagoya City and Toyota City. It shares many similarities with Columbus, such as population size, central location & proximity to other larger metros (i.e., Columbus to Indianapolis as is Miyoshi to Nagoya), and the importance of the automotive manufacturing sector to the local economy. The headquarters of local firm CAPCO (Miyama Co.) is located in Miyoshi, and the parent company of Rightway Fasteners also has operations in Miyoshi.
Several exchanges have developed over the years by and between the two cities, often including representatives of City government, local schools, and business interests. For example, each year, Miyoshi schools send a group of middle school students to spend one week living and studying in Columbus, and every other year up to 20 high school students from Columbus have the opportunity to do the same in Miyoshi. Relations between the two cities have further been fostered by respective community visits led by Miyoshi Mayor Kenji Onoda and Mayor Jim Lienhoop along with our Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts.
