916 Career & Tech Students of the Month
Sylvia Vue / Phlebotomy
A Student of the Month is characterized by the professional skills of Leadership, Problem Solving, Teamwork, Engagement, and Communication.
Sylvia worked hard in nursing assistant and has now continued with the same work ethic in phlebotomy. She has excellent professionalism skills and is going to make a fantastic healthcare provider.
Abigail George / EMT
Abigail is an excellent EMT student, both skill-wise and academically, and a tremendous partner. Keep up the stellar work!
Kinda (Kenda) Al Dairieh / Dental Program
Kenda is always on time for class and shows great enthusiasm for dentistry. She asks good questions in class and has a cheerful demeanor that brightens the early mornings for everyone in class.
Bluetooth Speakers with Rockler Hardware
In collaboration with Rockler Woodworking & Hardware, Rob Kiihn’s Woods III class created bluetooth speakers donated by Rockler. Students worked alongside Rockler instructors and later toured the Maplewood store. The project also promoted the trades with the hope that more young people choose this as a career path.

Who's in the OR?
Students in Ms. Hiniker's Human Anatomy and Physiology classes got a glimpse into what careers are involved in the operation room. Here are some of the different careers they learned about:

Sterile Processing Certification Pilot
In collaboration with St. Paul College, Lakeview Hospital and Regions Hospital twelve ISD 622 Students will work towards the completion of a Sterile Processing Certification. Students that complete the program and receive the certification will have an opportunity to apply for a sterile processing job and start a career in the health sciences.

North and Tartan students toured St Paul College and participated in hands on activities in CNC, Welding, Respiratory and IT.

This year during WIN students got the opportunity to hear from a variety of Post Secondary Options. Students heard from each guest, participated in a Q&A session and won some swag!

Summer Programs
SUMMER INTERNSHIP in HEALTHCARE
PAID summer internships at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater
- PHARMACY INTERN
- REHABILITATION INTERN (think Physical Therapy)
WHO: Students ages 16+; especially if you have completed coursework in chemistry, anatomy & physiology, genetics, biology or 916 Career & Tech Medical Careers
WHEN: 20 hours/week for 12 weeks; begins in June
WHERE: Lakeview Hospital, Stillwater, MN
OTHER: You will want to get a letter of recommendation from a teacher or other person who can speak to your sincere interest in healthcare and/or science. Also, I don't see a close date but I would apply early!
The MN Trades Academy (MTA) offers PAID summer construction internship experiences for high school youth. The goal of the program is to expose students to skill development, personal development and the knowledge on how to access good jobs with good benefits in the construction industry. MTA aspires to provide rich educational hands-on experiences for participants to earn while they learn about construction as a career choice.
District 622 students may be eligible for the following programs:

UNIVERSIY of MINNESOTA VET CAMP
According to the US Department of Labor, there were nearly 10 million STEM occupations in 2021. That number is likely to increase by almost 11% by 2031. Wages in STEM careers are higher too. In May 2021, the median salaries for STEM occupations were $95,420, compared to $40,120 for non-STEM occupations.
The U of M offers several STEM-related camps and many of them are free. A few of the camps listed need the 2024 refresh, so check back often and apply early.
WHO: Students in grades K - 12
COST: Often FREE. Check each camp/program for details
DEADLINE: Varies
Scrubs Camp is a healthcare career immersion program where students explore various aspects of healthcare and the careers that exist within. The goal of Scrubs Camp is to get students excited and interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, and to go back home motivated and focused on what they can do in high school to prepare for that potential career.
Scrubs Camps are offered as both day camps and overnight camps, where students get to stay overnight on a college campus. Many of the camps offer scholarships that cover the tuition (see each camp for details).
WHO: Students entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2024
WHEN: Camps range from 2-5 days; dates are varied
COST: $300-400, but scholarships are available at all camps (apply early)
METRO AREA DAY CAMPS
Bethel University, July 16-18
Metro/Augsburg University, July 9-12
St. Paul College, July 22-25 (application will open soon; check back)
OVERNIGHT CAMP
Winona State University, June 23-28
Note: If you want to experience staying in a dorm on a college campus, this is a fun camp to consider. Evenings are filled with team-building events and fun activities.
GIRLS WHO CODE
GIRLS WHO CODE Summer 2024 Application
Girls Who Code offers two free programs in the summer: the virtual SummerImmersion Program and the Self-Paced Program. Students can apply for BOTH programs, if eligible, using this application. However, students can only participate in one summer program.

This non-profit organization hosts this camp each summer. This camp connects students with the opportunity to explore a wide variety of aviation careers through hands-on projects, tours, and flight experience. Facebook
