Happy New Year!!!
I hope everyone had a great Christmas season. Mine was very full. Vrbo house full of ALL the family; new grandson (Timothy William Schwene, 8lb 10oz, 20”); taught my granddaughter to sew… made a pillow case and pj pants. I missed ‘my’ sewing space…but it all worked out and she loved it. Future quilter?, who knows. The Christmas Tree Quilt was a hit, too.
Now for the future. Raffle Quilt : I hope I will see/saw a lot of you at the ‘sew in’. Refer to the Smore that came out on January 7th for more details.
And the talk will soon begin on the 2024 North Texas Quilt Festival. Start planning a quilt or two. I love seeing everyone’s beautiful work of art.
Dorene and Janet are planning some great programs this year. And we will soon be seeing other guild’s raffle quilts visiting our meeting (so bring a little extra money for a raffle ticket)
Mystery Quilt
I know some of you have already started on Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt. Maybe I’ll even get something started by the January meeting?
While not a quild-sponsored activity, this is one of many on-line quilting projects that many of your fellow quild members participate in.

HOSPITALITY
Happy New Year to everyone. Hope you had a great holiday. The decorations are put away and everyone is ready to get back to working on our projects.
Thank you to everyone that brought a dessert to the December guild meeting. Thank you to all that helped set up and then helped clean up. The “Baked Potato Bar” was a great hit. Everyone enjoyed it.

BEES
** NEW **
EMBROIDERY BEE -- sponsor Wanda Edmonds
The embroidery bee will be starting the new year at Wanda's House Monday, Jan 15, 2024, at 10:30 am
The address is 1317 Marie Ln
Please email Wanda at dooleymac@gmail.com
to let her know you are coming or to indicate interest or schedule conflict.
Our intention is to meet regularly on the 3nd Monday of the month at 10:30, but this is negotiable.
I would like everyone to start the new year thinking about color in relation to background fabric.
I am going to suggest that we start the new year by purchasing the following design from Designs by Juju. It's currently on sale for $2.80
The link to the design is below: Stitch it out and bring it with you if you like.
Merry Christmas Trees Vintage Sketch
Let's see what you come up with and how it can be used.
Hope to see you in January
Wanda
FRAYED KNOTS
Frayed Knots
Members of the Frayed Knots celebrated the New Year with a four day sew-in. Sarah Tutt and Beverly Peterson worked on minis for the Guild. Ann Houpt cut and made good progress on a quilt for her daughter’s couch. Sue Hilgartner literally cranked out blocks for the Bonnie Hunter mystery on her Go! Jonquele Jones finished an artist inspiration challenge for the North Texas SAQA group. Laurel Grannan, Cecilia Buckholz and Deborah Warren were unable to join us and were much missed.
TIGHT KNOTS BEE
Start a Bee
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- 7-9 members. Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

Quilt Show Booth News
Hey Ladies - it's time to think about making things for our booth.
The show is earlier in 2024 so we have less time to accomplish this.
The money earned will go toward fun programs for the meetings.
I look forward to collecting all the wonderful items and thank you for your help!
Ann Houpt, Booth Chairman
BEV RAMSEY FUND
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
QUILTS OF VALOR
nine blocks were turned in at the December meeting and we
will have more kits ready for you to pick up at the meeting.
The new block for 2024 is the Ohio Star. It will make a stunning
quilt and can be combined with the split back star blocks we
already have.
February 3 rd is National QOV Sew Day, so we have scheduled a
sew day at The Berry Patch. It will be from 10-3 in the
classroom. There is room for about eight volunteers to sew and
a couple of volunteers to iron. We will have kits for you to work
on or you can bring a QOV project you have to finish. Bring your
machines and regular supplies.
Please sign up at the January meeting if you plan to attend the
sew day on Feb. 3 rd .
