River Heights Counseling Team
A message from our counselors
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are continuing to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to pause, reflect, and prioritize emotional well-being for ourselves and our loved ones. Mental health plays a critical role in how students think, feel, and learn and with only a few short weeks left in the school year, emotions can run high. The pressure of grades, transitions, and upcoming changes may lead to increased stress and anxiety for many students. Now more than ever, it’s important for families and school communities to work together in supporting our kids.
Mental health care doesn’t have to be complicated. Independent activities such as journaling, listening to calming music, or practicing deep breathing can help students regulate their emotions and feel more in control. As a family, try setting aside 10–15 minutes each evening for a screen-free check-in, take a walk together, or share a moment of gratitude at dinner. These small habits promote connection, lower stress, and remind students they are not alone.
As educators and families, let’s be mindful of the invisible challenges our students may be facing. Look for signs of overwhelm, listen without judgment, and encourage open conversations about feelings. Together, we can help students finish the year strong mentally, emotionally, and academically.
