Conferences - March 6th
Student-Led Conferences March 2025
Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 6th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30.
This conference will be a true Celebration of Learning and look a little different than March conferences have looked in the past. During this period, students will review their goals with you, highlight work, and showcase what they have achieved since October. There will be 4-6 viewing stations set up in each classroom. Teachers will transition between groups during this celebration and assist as needed. Typically this will take about 10-15 minutes; however, families are welcome to come in anytime during conferences.
Please know our special education staff will be available for walk-ins during the entire day. Specials teachers will be rotating between assigned buildings; however, if you’d like to speak to someone specifically just let us know in the main office and we will have them follow up with you.
We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning with you.

Super/Man Shows Perseverance
February Character Trait
Admittedly, I’m writing this “perseverance” article about 30 days too late - but I have my reason. You see, when February began I was still the new bumbling guy in the office. Despite Mpos. Salisbury’s knackering efforts, I was too busy learning how to work voicemail to focus on writing an article. But here goes . . .
Emerson’s recent “Word of the Month” was PERSEVERANCE. Coincidentally, a movie is currently playing on TV that personifies the term. Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story provides a good opportunity for parents to discuss the meaning of the word with older students.
This 2024 movie illustrates perseverance by contrasting the dual lives of Christopher (Superman) Reeve. Life #1 was super. It began in 1978 as Reeve crushed his arch-villains as the heroic “Man of Steel.” Life #2, however, was challenging. It began in 1995 when Reeve crushed his neck in an equestrian accident paralyzing himself below the neck.
Life #2 is the focus as it boldly displays Reeve’s perseverance on two fronts. First, he spent 10 years in a wheelchair continually, heroically, but unsuccessfully struggling to recover. Second, after realizing only minimal gains for himself, Reeve and his wife Dana shifted priorities to helping other paralysis victims. The couple’s perseverance raised millions and was recognized by the US government when it passed the Christopher & Dana Reeves Paralysis Act. This legislation distributed $25 million/year from 2010-2013 to improve the lives of the physically disabled.
Perseverance is one of the key words in the climatic ending as the Super Man, Christopher Reeve, states, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Like any great script, the movie does more than talk perseverance; it shows it.

StuCo Tie-Dye Party
Student Council members met after school last week for our annual tie-dye party to tie-dye this year's Student Council T-shirts. Students had tons of fun creating unique designs using their grade level class colors! This year's shirts were designed by 5th grader, Tucker Rocheleau.
Pawsome Breakfast
Pawsome Students Recognized
A group of Emerson’s Pawsome students and their parents were honored at a breakfast held at the school on February 26. The breakfast was just one of a series of such events that honor Emerson’s remarkable students. There are so many remarkables that we host a series of events in an attempt to spread the honors around. Pawsome students are selected for their demonstrated commitment to Emerson’s Paws Principles. These include kindness, respect, safety, and responsibility. Congrats to our donut & bagel eaters.
Title One Family Game Night
Emerson hosted our first Title One Family Game Night this week! Invited families played 10 different fun and educational games. At the end of the evening, families got to take their favorite game home. Thank you Learning Gizmos, our Richards Middle School Volunteers, Teacher Vounteers, and Title One!
Goodbye, Mrs. Lenn!
Mrs. Lenn was an Intervention Specialist with our school for 6 & a half years. She is sad to be leaving us, but an opportunity opened up somewhere else for her that she will be able to help with a larger group of kids in a different field. We thank her very much for being with us & always going above and beyond to help her students achieve their goals. We wish her the best in her new venture!

Board of Education
Welcome, Mr. Burrows, to the Fraser Board of Education
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Mr. Todd Burrows to fill the vacancy on the board. He will be ceremoniously sworn in at the February 24, 2025, board meeting and serve as trustee through December 31, 2026.
Mr. Burrows lives in Fraser and has a son who attends Salk Elementary. He has regularly attended board meetings since his son started kindergarten.
“I can foremost bring a willingness to serve and a strong desire to be part of and build up the Fraser School culture,” he said in his application. “I am a critical thinker who prefers consensus building decision making and would bring a measured approach to my role on the school board.”
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Burrows to our Board. A formal introduction to the community will be shared in the March newsletter.

CANVAS LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!
All students, grades Young 5s-12 use Canvas, a learning management system. Classroom teachers use Canvas to provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments for students, as well as parent communication.
Parents are encouraged to set up a parent/observer account to stay abreast of student learning. Canvas will allow parents to:
- Contact their child’s teacher
- View grades, due dates, and events
- See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
- Support an absent student
- View classroom and building announcements
