I hope everyone had a great Spring Break! We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school for the home stretch to the end. We have several weeks of instruction to go, then in May we will start our awards ceremonies and fun days. While most of our state testing is complete we still have some makeup tests remaining and our 7th & 8th graders have their big ACAP test coming up next week.
ACT: We got some great news during the break. Our Juniors ACT scores came back and they were great! We had two students join the 30+ clue and one came within one point of a perfect score! Easton Hutcheson made a 35 and Luke Garrard made a 32. This is an awesome achievement for these two students. That will be the equivalent of thousands of dollars in scholarships to pretty much anywhere they want to go.
As a class 39 students (76.5%) improved from their pre-ACT.
Two students improved their score by seven points.
Two students improved their score by six points.
14 students improved by four or more points.
Overall the Junior class improved their composite score 2.2 points from their pre-ACT in the 10th grade. They improved their Math score by 0.94 points, Science by 3.2 points, STEM by 2.06 points, English by 4.08 points, and Reading by 1.12 points.
The class score as a whole was 18.1, the highest of any class at PCHS that has taken the ACT by 1.3 points. They also scored the highest of any class in every subject area except for writing.
Not only am I proud of our students, I am proud of their teachers. They have worked hard all year to make this a daily focus in the classroom. We also had an ACT Bootcamp conducted by some our teachers two days before the test, and we offered out students incentives for high performance and outstanding improvement.
This is what we've been striving for at PCHS. This is standard we've been asking our students to set and the've stepped up to the challenge. This is the trend we want to continue. We want every class to try and outdo the next. You are up next Sophomores!
Baseball: During the break our baseball team improved to 3-1 in area play beating Sheffield twice. They have their two final area games coming up this week against Colbert Heights.
Have a great week!
