A message from the principal
Winter weather is here
Greetings CBPA families,
I'm sure you noticed Wednesday that our weather took a pretty significant turn. It looks to be a rather mild weekend, but we can likely expect cold temperatures from here on out. Please be sure your child is coming to school each day with appropropriate winter gear. This includes hats, boots, jackets, snowpants, mittens and scarves. As a reminder district guidance says that students will go outside if the temperatures are 0° or -10° wind chill. Winter gear should be labeled in order to make it easier for lost items to be returned to the proper student.
If you need support with purchasing winter gear, please connect with our social work team at (763) 506-6043.
Thank you for helping your students remember the appropriate gear in order to have a safe and enjoyable recess!
Specialty highlights
This year our fifth graders were able to participate in STARBASE, a one of a kind five day STEM experience that aligns to MN math and science standards while allowing students to imagine themselves in future engineering and science careers. Be sure to ask a student about their experience!
4th Graders recently visited Mississippi Gateway Regional Park (MGRP) for a lesson on Turtle Traits. Students learned about False Map, Painted, Soft Shell and Wood turtles. The Naturalists will be moving into their new facility soon, so we will return to MGRP after the new year. We can’t wait to see the visitors center!
The second round of Ninja Math is on the calendar. 2nd and 3rd grade students will get to participate with the help of Ninja United coaches. They will explore six different stations and record data to use in an accompanying math lesson.
We have a lot more in store for our students after the new year. Please be sure to follow us on Facebook to see examples of the student learning! https://www.facebook.com/CBPAMES

Volunteer news
Hello CBPA families! Happy December! Thank you to those volunteers to help us last month with our first Literacy and Math Night. The event was very successful and well attended! We could not have had this event without the help of such wonderful volunteers!
Please see below for what help is currently needed:
Skillbuilders (1st & 2nd grade): Skillbuilders is a program we offer students in grades kindergarten through 2nd grade. Trained volunteers come in typically once a week, during the school day and work with specific students in each of those grade levels with literacy and math comprehension activities. We are hoping to get this program started in January and it runs continuously throughout the school year. I am currently recruiting for volunteers to help with 1st and 2nd grade basic math skills for 1/2 hour per week. Training is provided for all interested volunteers! Thank you to those volunteers who have signed up already to help! I could use more help so if you are interested in helping in math in 1st and 2nd grade, please click on the sign up genius link below for more information:
December Lunchroom: We will be continuing to have volunteers assist us in the lunchroom during the month of December. Volunteers will help with getting the students through the serving line, assisting them while they are eating, helping them during lunch dismissal and wiping down tables. The time is 11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. However, if you are not able to commit to the entire time - that is ok - we will take whatever time you are willing to offer. Just note in your signup what time you will be volunteering! Please click on the links below to see what days help is needed:
Making Spirits Bright: For those of you who are new to CBPA, MSB is our community wide compassion project in which local families in our CBPA attendance area are adopted to assist during the holidays with a gift giving and food drive. Volunteers are needed daily during the campaign to help with the collecting, sorting and packing of items. Time needed is 9:15-10:30 a.m. Dates for collecting are 12/3-12/6 and 12/10-12/11. Five volunteers are needed each day.

Ninja Math Warrior Day:
On Thursday, December 19th, our 2nd and 3rd grade classes will be having a Ninja Math Warrior Day! In addition, Mrs. Schutz (4SC) and Mr. Gibbs (4GI) will also be having their ninja math day as well (this is due to their event being cancelled on 10/31 due to the power outage!) Volunteers are needed to be at each ninja station monitoring that the students are writing down the data they collect. One volunteer is needed per station. Each shift is 1 hour long. Volunteers are needed to help throughout the day with the different classes as well as for set up (7:45-8:45 a.m.) and clean up (3:25-4:25 p.m.) Please click on the link below to sign to help:

If your child is ill and needs to be out of school, it is helpful for health services to know the symptoms that your child is experiencing. You can report these on the absence line or when reporting the absence in Parent Vue. Thank you!
