Principal Update
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
Happy Monday. What fun we had on Halloween! See below for a quick video of the event!
We will be collecting plastic bread tags. Funds raised through recycling these tags will provide mobility equipment for those in need. We will collect them in the front foyer near Mrs. Kanellos.
We are still collecting Halloween candy through the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 9th.
Our book donation drive has begun! We are collecting for Bernie's Book Bank from now until Nov. 18th. Bring in your new or gently used children's books. Birth-6th grade books accepted. Please no workbooks, textbooks, or reference materials.
Book Fair is coming!
Wednesday, November 16 (2-8PM)
Thursday, November 17 (8-10AM)
We will occasionally be sharing ways in which we work to support the Social-Emotional learning needs of our students. The below visual shows an example of SEL learning integrated into our Kinetic Wellness classes.
School is not in session tomorrow due to Election Day. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Wednesday.
Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody

Math
Elementary Math Core Values in Winnetka D36
Over the summer a team of elementary teachers, math specialists, and math facilitators collaborated across the district to articulate the K-4 Math Core Values. Below are the five core values. Each month starting in December a core value will be featured in both principal newsletters and teacher newsletters.
Core Values of Elementary Math in Winnetka
Everyone can do math. Each child comes into the classroom with their own abilities and strengths as well as areas to grow and explore. Our goal is to meet each student where they are, build on, and deepen their understanding. Instruction is differentiated to each student’s individual needs. Math is creative and an integral part of the world around us.
Elementary Math Instruction in Winnetka…
Emphasizes active, hands-on learning.
Values perseverance and making mistakes.
Promotes flexible thinking, student agency, and creativity.
Focuses on deep conceptual understanding.
Cultivates communication, collaboration, and community.
