What's Happening at DATA
Hello DATA Families,
Where was last week's newsletter? Well, there wasn't one. As the start of the school year as come to a pretty steady pace and we have all gotten into a pretty good schedule, the DATA newsletter will be coming out every other week. Last minute info or surprise events will be shared via social media, Remind, and district messaging systems.
Have you seen the new DATA Website? If not, check it out here and bookmark the site. All of our events will be on the calendar. This is for both the HS and MS so if you have a student at both schools, you don't have to look at multiple places to see what's happening at either place. It's still a "little under construction" and we are working with our team to showcase our student work. It's a great place to refer future DATA families to check out our course offerings if they have any questions about what their students can do at DATA MS or DATA HS.
Update on our DATA Cell Phone policy. So far, so good. Shout out to our 9th grade and 10th grade students! As I go into classrooms, they are doing a fantastic job of upholding the classroom expectations. What I see in those classrooms is more student engagement with the content and more student-to-student talk with one another about the content. This is what we want to see! Great job.
I hope to many of you at our parent STEAM Carnival Volunteer Committee meeting this coming Wednesday night. This event is special for our DATA students and community and we want to level it up this year and need your help to get it there.
Until next time,
Mrs. Szabo

PSAT Testing for 9th - 11th grade students will be on Wednesday, October 2nd. All students in those grade levels will test. We will be running on our Thursday bell schedule that day anticipating that all testing will be done by noon and resume regular schedule for 4th period.
For our 9th and 10th grade students, this will give is valuable information on where we need to focus and support your student's academic needs.
For our 11th grade students, this is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. DATA has a long standing history of having commended, recognized, and winning students in all categories of National Merit. If you or your student is looking to gain acceptance into a top university, then they MUST take this test and MUST take it seriously.
Seniors will have a late start that day and will not be required to report to campus until 4th period. We are currently working with DATA MS for opportunities for tutoring or other ways to support DATA MS. More to come! This would also be a great time to get out into the community and provide get a couple of hours of service learning in!
Donation Items Needed
Mrs. Mendoza's classes are in need of newspapers, straws, and plastic bags. There is a donation box in the reception area at the TR front office. This will be available through the end of September.
STEAM Carnival Volunteer Committee
DATA is proud to serve our community by hosting our annual STEAM Carnival. A night to showcase our students' talents in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. This year we would love to make the event even bigger and better! To do this though, we need your help. If you are interested in helping organize the STEAM Carnival we are hosting an information/organizational meeting on Wednesday, September 25th in the College and Career Center from 6:00 - 7:00. This is a great way to give back to the DATA community in a small way this semester. I hope to see you there.

VOE Information
For any student who will be needing a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) for their driver's license, they must already have their appointment scheduled. Additionally, the VOE request must be submitted at least one week in advance of the appointment. All VOEs are requested from Ms. Tiller (located in the DATA building, Office D26). Please do not submit your request more than one week in advance.
To be eligible for a VOE, students must be currently enrolled in school AND the student must have received CREDIT for all classes in the prior semester. If credit was not received, then the school must review the attendance history and determine that the student was there 90% of the time each class was offered. The school will supply the VOE, the student does not need to submit the form.
