OCTOBER COUNT DAY
Dear CMES Families,
Your child's attendance is extremely important this coming Tuesday as it is the official count day for Colorado public schools. With that in mind, I wanted to provide you with some basic information on "October Count."
Important Dates:
October Count Window: September 24th – October 8th, 2024
“Official Count Day”: Tuesday, October 1st 2024
What is October Count?October Count is the day when Colorado Public Schools are required to count and report the number of actively enrolled students that attend their school. Schools report their findings to their designated school districts, who then submit all of the collected data to the Colorado Department of Education.
Why is October Count Important?
October Count is important because the Colorado Department of Education provides funds to both schools and school districts based on the number of students who are actively enrolled and attending classes on the official count day.
What can I do to help October Count run smoothly?
The easiest way you can help with October Count is to send your student to school. Since attendance is so important on this day, we will be providing a small prize to every student that attends!
We’re not asking you to send your student to school if he/she is ill, but if you have to make an appointment for your student, we encourage you to avoid the dates mentioned above. Your child should be attending school daily, but from September 24th – October 8th we ask that you limit the time you remove your child from school.
What if my child is sick or has an appointment during the Count Window?
If your student is sick or has an appointment during the Count Window and especially on Count Day (October 1st), we must prove to CDE that your student has attended school before and after their absence. If your student is not able to be at school for any reason during the Count Window, please contact our Health Aide, Gigi Case,
regarding your student’s absence, as we may need to complete additional paperwork about your student’s absence.
As always, we appreciate your support in getting your child to school on a daily basis!
Kindly,
Niki Van Essen
