Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Successful School Year!
Thank you to all the volunteers and families that came out for Science Night. The event was a success. We had an amazing year and raised a significant amount of funds for our scholars.
Kindergarten
Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
ELA: We will be continuing to work on writing stories, sentences, and using our sight words to describe any ideas.
Social Studies:We are reviewing a topic of things from the past vs the present times.
Math: We will be working on mathematical projects in class, using our Savvas curriculum.
Science: We are continuing a unit on planting, using different types of beans and watching them grow.
Upcoming Events
June 6, 2024 Kindergarten Promotion
Our Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Ms. Thornton and Ms. Shulman’s classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. and Ms. Lewis and Ms. Major’s classes will begin at 11:30 a.m. All scholars will receive three tickets, we are unable to provide more than three tickets per scholar due to the limited space.
*Friendly reminder: If your scholar is not feeling well, please keep them home. They should not be in school with a fever, a constant runny nose, or a cough that disrupts their ability to focus and concentrate on their lessons.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Next week is the final week of homework. In ELA, we will finish Unit 5, Our Incredible Earth. In Math, we will continue topic 16, Stepping up to Third Grade. In Science, we will continue topic 6, Habitats. In Social Studies, we will continue Chapter 6, Our American Culture.
We're excited to announce that our scholar's books are printed, and we have published authors among us! Our book publishing party will be on June 10th! Please be on the lookout for a signup genius link from your scholar's teacher. We can't wait to read it and share them with you!

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Reading, we will begin the fable from Aesop'sFox. The skill for this week is identifying final stable syllables -le, -ture, -ive, and -ize.
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 7: Lesson 1 What Makes a Community.
In Math, we are taking our Topic 1-16 Cumulative Benchmark, then we'll get to our Step up to 4th Grade work. Scholars are going to be completely done with our 3rd grade math curriculum.
In Science, we are working on fossils, and what we can learn about traces of previously living organisms.

Tigers! Tigers! We are moving full steam ahead in excellence! Team 5th grade is incredibly proud of your achievements thus far! Thank you for your hard work during MAP testing! We are moving full speed (STEAM) ahead and will soon be preparing for our upcoming promotion ceremony held on June 7th, 2024! Way to go Tigers! You did it!
Promotion Ceremony
Our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on June 7th, 2024. Ms. Tellis and Ms. T. McCants will celebrate at 8:30 am. Ms. Linton-Philp and Ms. D. McCants will celebrate at 11:30 am. Please arrive on time. We will begin promptly as scheduled. The attire for this event is DRESS to IMPRESS. We ask that you dress in your best and enjoy the festivities. Thank you for your support! Tickets will be dispersed to your scholar on Monday and placed in their book bags. Three (3) tickets will be assigned to each student. If a graduating student has a sibling that attends CMIT, that sibling does not need a ticket to attend. Thank you for your attendance and making this ceremony a success! We look forward to this auspicious occasion!

Field Day
Field Day will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024. There will be allotted stations and activities throughout the day and each class will migrate to each station according to the scheduled plan. Please make sure your scholar is present and is ready to enjoy the festivities! Fifth grade scholars will wear blue shirts. Thank you so much!
Cookout
Our 5th grade cookout is June 5, 2024. Let’s get ready to roll and go out with a big day full of food, fun, and fellowship. Let’s have a good time tigers!

Computer Fundamentals: Intro to Pointer Devices
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using a mouse and a trackpad to select objects.
3-5 students practiced
Presentations: Composing Slides
During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice composing slides using presentation software as they consider and use design elements, layouts, backgrounds, text, images, and white space to create and modify engaging slide shows.
Art
Greetings,
Tigers have studio time this week. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to plan and work on their projects. Projects include portraits, still life, architecture, and other activities that develop their understanding of shapes and value in 3D images. We will continue to stress planning and craftsmanship.
PE
This week in P.E. we are practicing our basketball dribbling skills, so please make sure your scholar has proper athletic shoes, and water as the weather is getting warmer.

Kinder scholars are learning about insects!
1st grade scholars are exploring ways to save different habitats.
2nd grade scholars are working on creating transportation or tools that mimic a plant or an animal.
3rd grade scholars are continuing their journey learning about coding. This week, they are learning about debugging.
4th grade scholars are continuing to work collaboratively to create and deliver a message using only light.
5th grade scholars have begun their unit on Potential and Kinetic Energy where at the end of the unit they will build and test their roller coaster and create a commercial about the coaster that they create with their team.
