Lake Orion High School
April 29th 2024
LOHS Families,
Spring is upon us! The weather is shifting to warmer days, and everyone is busy, busy, busy! The next few weeks are going to go very quickly. Please be sure to continue paying close attention to our newsletters and communications. There will be a lot of new information coming out with several end of the year events taking place.
Senior families – For many, our seniors are down to three weeks of attending high school. We are looking forward to celebrating our graduates and helping them make sure they end their LOHS career worthy of the legacy they want to leave behind. The Class of 2024 has so much to celebrate – let’s help them continue to Point Positive.
Go Dragons! Protect the Thunder!

Attention Class of 2024
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1 (coinciding with National Decision Day), Lake Orion High School will celebrate all seniors’ post-secondary pathways with “Decision Day” events (see below flyer).
LOHS seniors are destined for a wide variety of post-secondary institutions, including local community colleges, public and private four-year universities, trade and technical schools and military academies. Additionally, some students choose to enlist in the armed services, take a GAP year, or enter the workforce directly after high school. LOHS wants to recognize ALL seniors’ decisions.
On Tuesday, April 30, Seniors are encouraged to wear clothing representing their post-high school “decision”. Students may also bring their official college or military acceptance letter or job hiring documentation. Seniors will take photos during lunches, and LOHS will publicize and celebrate students' decisions on social media (follow #LOHSDecisionDay24).
During homeroom on Wednesday, May 1 (National Decision Day), LOHS will be coordinating group photos along with an ice cream social event for all seniors. Students are again welcome to wear their swag on Wednesday – especially if they are going to an institution with other LOHS graduates.
Term 4 Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, May 9th from 4 p.m. – 6:30 PM. We will continue to utilize the online scheduling program, SchoolSoft, to enable parents to schedule individual appointments
Using the SchoolSoft Link, or the document below you will find detailed directions to access and schedule the conference appointments with LOHS staff. Conveniently, this process is done through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The system will open on Thursday, May 2nd at 10:00 AM.
PLEASE NOTE: All conferences must be scheduled through SchoolSoft. Please know that you cannot access the SchoolSoft scheduling program with your student’s PowerSchool account, you will need to utilize your PowerSchool Parent Account. If you do not have your own account, you will need to create one; please contact Amy Thebo at amy.thebo@lok12.org for assistance with PowerSchool. If you need help with scheduling a conference time through SchoolSoft please contact Beth Beebe at elizabeth.beebe@lok12.org.
If you miss your scheduled conference, you will need to e-mail the teacher to schedule a conference on a new day and time. Thank you for the continued support of your student and Lake Orion High School.
LOHS Staff Appreciation week is May 6-10
The LOHS Parent Group is collecting certain items to be used throughout the week of May 6-10 to help show our appreciation to the LOHS teachers and staff. Our theme for the week is "The Year of the Dragon," which symbolizes strength, wisdom, health and good luck. Some of the fun days we have planned are a staff breakfast to start their day off healthy, a "Fill your Cup" day to give the staff strength, and a "Dragon Trivia" day to bring them good luck.
Please see below for ways that you can help by donating drinks, treats and supplies.

SUMMER AI PROGRAMMING
LOCS is excited to partner with INSPIRIT, an organization that delivers in-person Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming and instruction to middle and high school students taught by instructors from Stanford and MIT. This first of its kind opportunity in Michigan is available to Lake Orion students this June. Please see the attached brochure for additional information.
LOCS Is Hiring!
Free Tutoring
Dear LOHS Parents,
Lake Orion High School is extremely excited to announce a continuation of our free tutoring program. This program will allow your child to connect directly with LOHS staff in specific content areas (math, science, social studies, etc.) outside of normal school hours. These tutoring sessions are one hour and can take place either in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams (this is decided between the tutor and the student(s) in the group). This tutoring is intended as remediation as opposed to homework help; however, homework is often utilized to teach skills. As we do not have an inexhaustible number of tutors available, this program is on a first come, first serve basis.
To sign up your child, please fill out this form.
If you have additional questions, please contact Cathy Srock at Catherine.Srock@LOk12.org.
SERVICE HOURS SPOTLIGHT
Service opportunities are emailed to students the first week of each month with the events for that specific month. This list can also be found on the LOHS Service Learning page, at the bottom.
