Dear OES Parents,
In order to communicate what your children have learned and the areas in which they require additional support, classroom teachers are working on report cards. You will receive a wealth of information on their efforts to ensure your child's academic success at the Online School. Please do not forget to show up for your child's conference.
Bring a lot of questions for your child's teacher to this meeting. Inquire with teachers about additional interesting ideas or activities that your child might participate in to learn or reinforce what they are learning in class.
Let's ensure that this conference is a dialogue rather than a speech. Our purpose is to collaborate. Let's discuss our issues and how to resolve them to guarantee our kids' success.
Please check your email account frequently to learn more about the upcoming OES Parent-Teacher conferences.
Conferences:
Thursday, November 7th, 4:30 pm- 8:00 pm
Friday, November 8th, 9:00 am–3:00 pm
Sincerely,
John Osorio

4th Grade
This week in 4th grade, students have been practicing mental math strategies to work with large numbers such as 3 x 5,000! Ask them about it and give them some multiplication challenges!
In reading, we have been analyzing poetry and short stories to recognize, explain and create figurative language, especially metaphors and similes. Students are also practicing taking short notes while reading in order to focus on supporting details and main idea.
Lastly, we have been reading Bridge to Terabithia as a class and watching short clips from the movie. This book covers some serious themes such as bullying and death, and the students are engaging in dialogue around these themes in a thoughtful and empathetic manner. We are about halfway through the book if you’d like to discuss it with your child. Please reach out if you have any questions.
5th Grade
Hello 5th grade families!
This week has been a blast! Students have started learning about folk tales in reading and writing and have been challenged to rewrite a folk tale of their own! They can be inspired by a folk tale from their culture, a favorite childhood fairy tale, or can find one online or in a book. Students will be working on writing this tale next week - if it is one from your culture, please feel free to help your student tell it.
In math, students have been working with orders of operations (some of you might remember PEMDAS). In small groups, students are focusing on this skill along with multi digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
In social studies, students are finishing their unit on Indigenous Nations of North America. Students will be presenting this information on Monday, Oct. 28th from 2:30 - 3pm if you would like to join us at the code 5oes!

News from Nurse Jenny
“Vaccines can prevent infectious diseases that once killed or harmed many infants, children, and adults. Without vaccines, your child is at risk for getting seriously ill and suffering pain, disability, and even death from diseases like measles and whooping cough. The main risks associated with getting vaccines are side effects, which are almost always mild (redness and swelling at the injection site) and go away within a few days. Serious side effects after vaccination, such as a severe allergic reaction, are very rare and doctors and clinic staff are trained to deal with them. The disease-prevention benefits of getting vaccines are much greater than the possible side effects for almost all children. The only exceptions to this are cases in which a child has a serious chronic medical condition like cancer or a disease that weakens the immune system, or has had a severe allergic reaction to a previous vaccine dose. (CDC, October 24, 2024)” Please see this link for more information.
Contact Nurse Jenny if you want more information on immunizations or any other health related topic at 651-419-1219 or Jennifer.martineau@spps.org.

Title I
Dear Parents,
Please spend some time talking to your kids about the Home-School Compact's Shared Responsibilities. Making sure that parents, instructors, and children are cooperating is our top priority. Each of us has a role to play in your child's academic achievement. We become more conscious of the behaviors we must follow in order to succeed after we have talked about and learnt about our responsibilities.
Please talk about the duties outlined in the Home-School Campact that you and your kid have.
During the next conferences, classroom teachers will discuss the Shared Responsibilities listed in the Home-School Compact for Student Achievement.
Title I Resources and Important Links for Parents:
Feel free to contact John Osorio at john.osorio@spps.org with any questions about Title I or any of these documents and services.
