Does your student eat school lunch?
Did you know you can view and/or print the daily lunch menu??
CCS provides both breakfast AND lunch to all students daily. Wearing ID badges daily helps with this process, we appreciate your help!
Attention 5th Grade Families
A note from WLMS Family Ambassador (and Kenwood parent) Lynsey Bock
Greetings from one of your World Language MS family ambassadors! I am reaching out to share that we will soon be offering tours for our pathway families! I am sharing the link below, and please know that I am available as a resource for your family as you begin to consider middle school for your student. (Shoot me a DM or email me at lbock@columbus.k12.oh.us anytime.)
We will additionally offer a Pathway to WLMS Open House event as in past years; I will share information about that as it becomes available.
Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
Our building substitute Hannah Spiegel has shared information on how to start the process!
You must have a bachelor's degree to begin the process. Apply to get hired as a sub for CCS at https://ccsjobs.org/teach-our-students/
If you're hired, you will need to complete a background check & onboarding with CCS and THEN get a substitute teaching license from Ohio Department of Education (you must be hired before getting the license) https://sboe.ohio.gov/educator-licensure/apply-for-a-new-license/substitute-licenses
It takes about 4-6 weeks and about $100 in fees to get through the hiring, onboarding, licensing process but after that you can choose when to work and in what buildings (but there is a minimum of 35 days worked per year for them to be willing to keep employment in place for the next year).
If you have additional questions about the process, feel free to email Hannah Spiegel at hspiegel@columbus.k12.oh.us
Counselor's Corner: Mme Ortega Presents...
Students in 2nd-5th grade will be participating in Start with Hello activities the week of November 18th. On Thursday, November 21, these students will take part in Mix It Up at Lunch.
Start With Hello is a prevention program that teaches children & teens how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Start With Hello asks students, educators, parents and other community leaders who interact with children to take steps in class, the lunchroom and/or other times in their day to be inclusive and connected. The objectives of Start With Hello are to teach students how to: See Someone Alone -- Reach Out And Help -- Start With Hello
Launched by Teaching Tolerance in 2002, Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a national campaign that encourages students to cross social boundaries, disregard stereotypes and shut down cliques by sitting with someone new at lunch. Cafeterias are prone to self-segregation among students, which makes them a prime location for promoting inclusion and appreciation for differences—and Mix It Up has a 12-year track record of doing just that.

This Month's PTO Meeting Is November 12th 6-7pm In The Cafeteria
There is no school November 5th so the PTO meeting will take place the second Tuesday for November only
This is a particularly important meeting since the PTO will be nailing down all of the specifics and assigning responsibilities for Winter Extravaganza. This is a HUGE event that earns our school a lot of money which equals resources for your students! Please come, bring a friend, join a committee and do a little bit to help pull this event together. We need all hands on deck!
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Sign-In Procedures
Every volunteer that comes into the building during school hours needs to sign in via the Raptor system (the computer in the foyer) You will need to have a valid ID (a driver's license or state ID card) with you every single time. You will scan the barcode on the back of your ID and follow the steps on the screen. A visitor sticker with your picture will print out for you to wear visibly for your entire time in the building. To sign out all you need to do is remove your sticker and scan the barcode on the sticker at the same computer. This will automatically sign you out!
We appreciate all of your help and efforts to keep our school a safe place for everyone!
Volunteer Thursdays
We are looking for volunteers to help complete teacher projects (copying, cutting, etc) on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30! This is a great opportunity to get to know your school! All volunteers are required to complete some paperwork their first time in the building each school year. Don't forget to bring along a photo ID. Please sign up using the link below, looking forward to seeing you here!
Recess Volunteers
We will be taking volunteers to help chaperone our lunchtime recesses. This will give caregivers the opportunity to not only support our staff but also see your little ones play and interact with friends! There are several steps that need to be taken to ensure this goes safely and smoothly so please take your time and read ALL of the information provided in the sign-up and we look forward to seeing you here at Kenwood!
Lost & Found
Recognize Anything??
Thank you to the caregivers who looked through and found items during the Halloween Parade! If you see something that looks familiar, have noticed your child is missing something or just want to double check: stop and take a look next time you're in the building OR tell your student to take a quick look during lunch. Our next school event is Movie Night Friday, November 8th from 6-8pm so be sure to take a peek!
