PAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Page Middle Families,

The staff at Page Middle has been working hard to prepare for the school year! We are excited to see our students again. The first week of school traffic is always extra challenging. Please allow extra time for drop off and pick up. Adding to the usual traffic, paving is scheduled to start on Arno Road tomorrow! Please be patient and keep your eyes open for pedestrians and newly licensed high school drivers.

This newsletter will come out every weekend. It is a good way to stay informed with school events. Your child's teachers will be posting weekly updates on their Skyward pages so be sure to check there regularly.

Have your child charge their Chromebook and login into it today in order to download needed updates. New students will receive their Chromebook on Tuesday.

Please engage with your child each day to help them learn and use good academic and social skills. It takes the school, parents, and the student all participating in the development of these skills to be most effective.

Finally, I encourage you to monitor your child's technology and social media accounts. The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated there is a strong correlation to social media use and depression and anxiety in adolescents. Middle school is a developmental stage where they need your guidance, even if they don't want it.

Tryout Dates: Due to weather conditions, tryouts will be on Tuesday August 6th and Wednesday August 7th from 6:15-7:15 AM. Students will need to bring a change of clothes and shoes with them, and a towel to dry off from sweat. They will be given from 7:15- to 7:40 to change and get to class. Please drop them off at the back of the gymnasium on these mornings

Requirements for Trying Out: Girls must run 2.0 miles in 20 minutes and under, taking up to 40 runners for the team. Boys must run 2.0 miles in 17½ minutes and under, taking up to 40 runners for the team. **Runners MUST attend at least one day but we recommend that you attend as many days as you can. We will be taking the top times. Please look at our summer workout ideas on the Page Middle Website under “cross country”. Prior conditioning is not required but very helpful for your tryout.

Required Paperwork for Tryouts:

1. Complete all parent and student forms on FinalForms. You can access the FinalForms website at https://wcs-tn.finalforms.com/

1. A current SPORTS PHYSICAL uploaded into Final Forms. Sports physicals MUST be dated 4/15/24 or later.

1. Select the “Boys Cross Country” or “Girls Cross Country” box in FinalForms. Runners who have not selected the “Boys Cross Country” or “Girls Cross Country” box will not get emails with tryout information, cancellations, changes, etc.…

**Runners should bring their own water to tryouts and practices! **

Wrestling Cheer Tryouts will take place at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year!

Beginning the first day of school: Tryout packets are available outside the gym doors

Friday, August 9: Paperwork, physical is due in Final Forms

Friday, August 9: Tryout application page (last page in packet) is due to Coach Deason

Thursday, August 8: Tryout video is released in the Google Classroom (code will be in the tryout packet)

Monday, August 12 (3:00-4:30): Tryout clinic

Wednesday, August 14 (3:00-4:30-ish): Tryouts

STUDENTS MUST BRING CHARGED CHROMEBOOKS TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. IF THEY NEED TO CHECK ONE OUT FROM THE LIBRARY, THEY WILL RECEIVE A STRIKE. THREE STRIKES

EQUALS BEFORE SCHOOL DETENTION ON THE NEXT LATE START DAY.

NO BUS PASSES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. Per direction from the WCS Transportation Department, we CANNOT write bus passes for students to ride a bus other than their own. Thank you for your understanding.
