Board Meeting Summary

The Board of Education provides a "Board Meeting Summary" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a brief description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items. • Superintendent Kaczkowski celebrated the elementary principals as part of National Principals Appreciation Month. Click Here for the celebration video. Hadley Junior High principals will be celebrated at the next Board meeting.

• Dr Kaczkowsi provided an update the process of selecting and seating two student Board Liaisons.

• The Illinois School Report Cards will be released on Wednesday, October 30. Board will be provided the information first and then we will share with staff and community.

• Director of Student Services Laurel O’Brien and Board Vice President Jason Loebach gave a summary of the most recent Special Education Strategic Plan Committee meeting and shared next steps.

Action Item: Acquisition of Real Estate | listen

At the Board of Education meeting last night, the Board took action on a resolution related to property acquisition. The Board has identified three parcels of real estate that are currently available for sale immediately to the North of Churchill School which provide options to address space needs in this landlocked community. The land could help the district address the issue of space for early childhood and other educational purposes.

The parcels are owned by real estate agents and the District has not been able to come to an agreement with them on fair market values for the purchase of the parcels, despite a very lengthy opportunity for discussion and negotiation. Under these circumstances, Illinois law allows the District to initiate eminent domain proceedings in the DuPage County Circuit Court to have the fair market value decided by the Court and ownership awarded to the District upon payment of that fair market value. The Resolution the Board adopted at the Board meeting on October 28, 2019, authorizes the district attorneys to initiate eminent domain proceedings as soon as practicable.
