Annual Title 1/SIC Meeting
The Lugoff Elementary School Improvement Council is elected yearly. Although our council acts in an advisory capacity only, our administrators work closely with this important group to work toward the betterment of Lugoff Elementary. Working hand in hand with our SIC is our Title 1 Committee. They both meet Tuesdays, eight times a year. We will vary the times for our meetings this year in order to hopefully encourage more participation. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 5:00 PM in the art room. Please come and learn about our SIC, as well as what it means to be a Title 1 School. In addition, we will discuss the use of the Title 1 funds we receive, review the parent engagement policy, discuss parental responsibilities, rights and involvement, and much more. Please come!
Grandparents' Day Parade
Our fourth annual Grandparents Day Parade will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 8:30 AM. If it rains, our rain date is Wednesday, September 18 at the same time. Please feel free to decorate both sides of your vehicle and include your grandchild's/grandchildren's names since you won't know which side of the circle they will be on. Flyers were sent home in today's Friday Folders!

Parent/ Student Handbook 2024
Families,
Here is another copy of our handbook that was placed in Class Dojo and emailed to all families on July 29, 2024. I know that we have had several families join us since that time, so please take a moment and check it out! https://drive.google.com/file/d/17sEhPXLB0BmjVeTfnZCw6mxT11BFPelj/view?usp=sharing
Lugoff Elementary School is a Title 1 School. What Does This Mean?
Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of academically at-risk students. The goal of Title I is to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students identified as failing or most at risk of failing the state’s challenging performance standards in mathematics, reading, and writing.
What will Title I do for my child?
The Title I program will provide your student with extra educational assistance.
Which students does Title I Serve?
The program serves students who have demonstrated that extra assistance is needed.
How does our school receive Title I money?
First, the federal government provides funding to each state. Then, each State Educational Agency sends money to its school districts. The amount of money each school receives is determined by the number of low-income students attending that school. Finally, Title I schools:
Identify the students at their school who need the most educational assistance based on the criteria that school has chosen. Students do NOT have to be from low-income families to receive Title I services.
Set goals for improving the skills of academically at-risk students at their school.
Measure student progress to determine the success of the Title I program for each student.
Develop programs for each individual student in order to support/supplement regular classroom instruction.
What do Title I programs offer?
Title I programs generally offer:
Additional teachers and/or paraprofessionals
Opportunities for professional development for school staff
Extra time for teaching Title I students the skills they need
A variety of supplementary teaching methods
An individualized program for students
Additional teaching materials which supplement a student’s regular instruction
A variety of opportunities for parents to stay informed and be involved with their child’s educational experience
Parent Resource Centers with educational materials and resources for families to check out and use at home
Car Rider and Walker Tags
If you do not have this year's car rider tags, now is the time to get them. The link is https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mtduKcDRSYThAjFXkgDwEbhOyqEIdjM1ZmnIOWXBzJ4/edit#settings. Anyone with the wrong tag will be sent to the front office to be identified. This is a protocol that we utilize to help maintain safety.
