Greetings,
This past week, I had the pleasure of traveling to our nation's capital along with Mrs. Cornell and Mrs. Gleason to receive our U. S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Award. It was an honor to represent our students, staff, and community as we received recognition for our efforts to ensure environmental responsibility. Highlights of our efforts which led to this recognition were the continued work of our EcoBuds group, the 2017–18 school-wide focus on the environment, and our health and wellness programs. We also had the first meeting of our leadership groups on our Late Start Day this past Wednesday. Students meet in their self-selected leadership groups for thirty minutes toward the end of the school day. During these meetings, students plan and carry out acts of service for their school and community. Leadership groups provide our students with opportunities to practice their leadership skills and demonstrate ownership of their community. They give the students voice and choice of how they will make an impact. Click here to read more about the leadership groups students and staff developed.
Conference week begins tomorrow. As you know, we strongly believe in the importance of the home and school connection to ensure the academic and social-emotional growth of our students. Conferences are an essential component to the home/school connection as they provide an opportunity to share progress in a face to face meeting. They are an excellent opportunity to share information and ask clarifying questions. We look forward to seeing all of our families this week as you come to gather more information about your child as a learner.
