Dear Trailside Families,
We had a wonderful and full first week back! This period between Fall Break and Thanksgiving provides many opportunities to connect and celebrate together. Please see the details below regarding upcoming events such as conferences and Veterans Day.
- Food Drive begins this week!-We will be collecting specific donations for HVAF (Homeless Veterans and Families) once again this year. Our collection week will run 10/28-11/11. Please see the section below for requested donations for those who would like to participate.
- Quarter One Report Cards, 10/29 - Your child's quarter one report card will be available for review in PowerSchool on Tuesday, 10/29. Please note that this year our report cards were revised to reflect the new state standards and include a new indicator system. You'll notice a slightly different look to the report card with the skills we've assessed being indicated by a grade level marking. All other skills will have a grey box. The number of skills assessed is always a bit lighter in the first quarter as we spend many of our beginning of the year schools days with procedures and building community.
- Veterans Day at PVE - PPT photo submissions Due 11/1 - We are already preparing for our Veterans Day Programs at TSE, which will be held on Monday, November 11th! Please see the section below if you would like to have your veteran(s) honored in our PPT Presentation. The due date for sending photos is November 1st!
- School Picture Retake Day is 11/12- Please note that Cripe will be at TSE on the morning of 11/4 to take photos of students and staff who were absent or would like a retake. Please see the section below for more details.
- PTO Fall Book Fair, 11/4-11/8 - Our Fall PTO Literati Book Fair will occur the first week of November in the LGI Room. Just like in the past years, it will be open during conference times as well. Please see the detailed section below for the details.
- Thursday, 11/7 - No School due to Student/Parent Conference E-Day - Our Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences will be held Wednesday, 11/6 from 3-5:30pm and 11/7 from 11am-7pm. As a reminder, there will be no in-person school for students on 11/7 and instead, an Eday will be utilized. More information will be shared after Fall Break regarding how to access the Eday content and when the Eday modules will be due to be completed.
Sincerely,

Veterans Day Photo Presentation - Photos due November 1st
As we prepare for our Veterans Day program, we need your help. Each year we have a presentation of pictures that display our students and the Veterans in their family at the end of our celebration.
This year we are requesting you send your pictures to us digitally. Please follow the specific directions below to have your students and Veterans honored during our program on Monday, Nov. 11th.
- Send ALL pictures to this email address: tseoffice@zcs.k12.in.us.

Child Find
Child Find is the process for locating, identifying, and evaluating individuals with suspected disabilities who may need special education services, regardless of the severity of their disabilities. This is the responsibility of ZCS regardless of whether a parent affirmatively requests an evaluation. ZCS provides a Free Appropriate Public Education to any child who qualifies as having a disability, in accordance with federal and state laws. ZCS is responsible for locating all children ages 3 through 22 years of age with a suspected disability who reside within the boundaries of its district. With early identification and intervention, frustration and academic failure can be prevented, which in turn creates a positive learning experience for students. Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), which encompasses academics and/or social and emotional learning, is an essential component of the child find process. Utilizing screening assessments, the ZCS team members identify students in need of intervention, implement action plans, and monitor the response to the targeted interventions. In addition, the evaluation referral procedures in ZCS provide the framework to refer students with suspected disabilities for evaluation.
Speech and Language Assistance Program:
The Speech and Language Assistance Program is designed to provide students with speech and language support within the general education setting. Following the MTSS approach, this program allows for early identification and treatment of speech and language delays, so students receive assistance without having to be identified under special education. The Speech and Language Assistance Program is a three-tiered system in which progress is monitored to determine if additional supports are needed to access education. If adequate progress is not demonstrated, a referral for evaluation will be prompted to determine eligibility under special education.
If you have questions regarding the Child Find process in ZCS, please contact your child’s school counselor or building administrator.
