October is here!
Benchmark assessments are under way as we get to know your child as a learner. We will then take a look at the data collected, and create a plan that best meets your child’s needs. If you haven’t already, please reach out to your child’s teacher to sign up for parent teacher conferences. Report Cards will be sent home on November 15th. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
Events in October
Join us for Spirit Week!
Picture Day
Picture Day is October 1st. Visit https://vando.imagequix.com/S9SRC9J and enter the school online code ColdSprings24 to order online.
Ag Day Field Trip
On Friday, October 11th, Cold Spring ELC will take a short field trip to Stissing Mountain Junior Senior High School to see the Ag Fair exhibits and animals. This event is closed to the public. Students enjoy seeing cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits in the barns, as well as their own art creations inside the gymnasium. On Saturday, October 12th, the event is open to the public so bring the whole family to come see the fun.
Crazy Creatures
Crazy Creatures are a traditional part of our Ag Fair and make for great fun while creating them. Crazy Creatures must be made from natural materials only and held together with toothpicks, twigs, or other natural items. Please see the yellow Ag Fair booklet that was sent home for more information. These creations need to be to school no later than 9:00 am on October 10th. Crazy Creatures cannot be brought to school on the bus due to safety reasons, so please plan accordingly.
Harlem Wizards Game
Come watch the Pine Plains Staff play against the Harlem Wizards in what is sure to be an entertaining game on October 23rd from 7:00-9:00 pm at the high school! You can buy tickets here: https://harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets/
Bus Safety Week
Bus Safety Week is October 21-25th. One safety tip is to not walk right in front of, or between buses. This makes it very difficult for the driver to your child. When dropping off your child in the mornings, please walk on the side walk to the front door and, if walking by the first bus in line, please walk far enough out in front of the bus so the driver can see you. Thank you to all of our bus drivers and bus monitors for safe transport every day!
Cooler Weather
As the cooler, fall weather is upon us, please remember to send a sweater or a lighter jacket in with your child. Our playground is nestled among farmland, and can become very windy. Please also consider sending in fall/winter clothes as a back-up to keep in classrooms should your child need to change clothes.
October 31st
While learning is of the utmost importance, so is fun. We will be taking time out of our busy day to see the seniors parade our halls and to parade around the building in costume! If your child would like to, they can bring their costume to school and we will help them change into it for our parade, or they can wear fall themed clothing, too! Please no masks or props.
PTA Boo Thru
Come to the high school on Saturday, October 26th from 4-7pm for a walk thru Halloween Bash! Many thanks to the PTA for organizing and hosting this event. A flyer will be sent home soon.
From the Health Office
Just a few reminders from the Health Office:
If your child is absent, please send an email or handwritten note upon your child's return stating the reason why your child is out. While we appreciate phone calls, we also need a note.
A reminder to not send any medication with your child to school in their backpack. This includes chapstick, cough drops, and/or any random over the counter medications. If your child needs something, please contact the health office and we can help. See the image below for help when determining if your child can come back to school after being ill.
