Need to Know
Parent-Student-Teacher Virtual Conferences February 27 & 28: BOOKING IS OPEN! The instructions for booking appointments are here. Students are expected to attend the virtual meetings with their parents on Feb 27&28.
Phys Ed Course Selection: At this time, we ask families to review the options presented in this Spring Phys. Ed. Options form. Every Middle School student should indicate his preferred phys. ed. options for the April - June spring term and submit this form by Thursday, February 27.
Black History Month Special Dress Day: In honor of Black History Month, Grade 8 student Kameron Clarke invites all MS students to participate in a special dress day, tomorrow, Friday, February 21. Students may wear a shirt or sweater in one of the four Black History Month colors (black, red, yellow, green) in place of their school uniform shirt tomorrow.
National Pink Shirt Day - Feb 26: Pink Shirt Day started as a grassroots movement in Nova Scotia in 2007 when a student was bullied for wearing pink to school. His schoolmates wore pink the next day in support of the bullied student. With that act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day was born. Students are invited to wear a pink shirt in place of their school uniform shirt on Wednesday, February 26 to take part in Canada’s National Pink Shirt/Anti-Bullying Day.
Planning to be away from school? If you know your son will miss days of school next week, or in the week following the March break, please notify Ms. Beech. Students will speak to their teachers directly to find out what they’ll be missing.
Spring cleaning and laptop charger check: Students will be cleaning out their lockers this week and next in preparation for the spring break. Please send an extra reusable bag with your son if you feel he’ll need it to carry items home. We will be checking lockers for missing laptop chargers, to help avoid extra charges for missing chargers at the end of the school year! If your son keeps his charger at home, please take the time this weekend to check that his name is the one engraved on it and return any charger that isn’t his. If necessary, a new charger can be purchased from our tech office or at the retailer of your choice before we return to school in March. We’ll also be checking common spaces for missing uniform pieces. As always, if an item is labelled, it can be returned to its owner!
March Break Basketball Camp at SHS: Coaches Marty Boyle and Jon Merritt are excited to offer our March Break Basketball Camp for students in Grades 3-8. Monday March 3 to Thursday March 6 from 9:00-11:00am in the Speirs Gym. Cost is $150. Players will work on skills, play games, and have fun. If you would like to attend please contact Jon Merritt at merrittj@selwyn.ca.
Staff Appreciation Week Thank you! On behalf of the entire Selwyn staff, we thank the SHS Parent Volunteer Association for the delicious treats and the fun, creative activities and crafts. We felt truly appreciated and had a fantastic time. Camping out at work has never been more enjoyable!
