Welcome back Bulldogs!

I hope everyone had an amazing first week back. I am SO excited to be back at school...it has been so nice to see the kiddos. Hopefully you were able to rest, recharge, and spend some quality time with loved ones over summer break.

Those of you new to G/T, welcome! I look forward to getting to know your kiddo.

My role is split 50/50 between G/T & ESL services, and I am currently testing kiddos and conducting compliance tasks. G/T pull-out will begin the week of August 23rd. Once my schedule is finalized, I will share it. It's going to be a great school year!

Please purchase a one inch binder with a clear front plastic pocket for your child to use for all things G/T (any color will work). Please have your kiddo bring the binder to school the week of August 23rd. I know I am providing short notice, so if you are unable to send it until the following week, I understand. • Classroom teachers provide differentiated instruction in the core subjects.
• Students are clustered in classes with a teacher who has met the state G/T training requirements.
• Students participate in G/T Expo, which highlights their completed independent study projects.
• G/T students are met with each week to work on research instruction, independent project work, and other group activities.
• Classroom teachers are supported with strategies and training specific for G/T students.

This year, Humble ISD is implementing a new G/T curriculum from the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Invention Project emphasizes creative problem solving through real-world challenges, supports college and career readiness, and provides hands-on engagement in STEAM for deeper conceptual learning. Throughout the program, children build competency in decision making, self management, social awareness and relationship skills while finding opportunities to practice speaking and listening.

Participants learn by:

• Being creative

• Solving problems

• Building on prior knowledge and experiences

• Participating in authentic learning

• Having fun

The curriculum supports Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills, such as: self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, and relationship skills.

The Key Components of the Invention Project program include:

1. Immersion

2. Create, Test, and Recreate

3. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

4. Creativity and Innovation

5. Creative Problem Solving

6. Team Building and Collaboration

Students will be challenged with solving real-world challenges in habitats across the country. To accomplish this, they construct prototypes, explore energy conservation and discover how to eliminate pollution and protect wildlife. Throughout the year, students will experiment with ways to purify contaminated water, work together to defend vulnerable habitats and learn how parachutes are used to safely transport animals.

Take a look at the video below...it is a brief overview/sneak peek of the part of the unit we will be completing. We are sure to have lots of fun while learning together!

4th & 5th Grade G/T students help put together our school yearbook. We will begin planning out our new book soon! I can't wait to hear all of their ideas.
