Welcome back to another exciting school year at Central Avenue Elementary. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break. We are thrilled to welcome our students, both returning and new, and we look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and fun.

On Thursday, August 22nd from 5:30 to 7:00pm we will be hosting our Back to School and Community Night. Students and families will have the opportunity to visit their classroom, meet their teacher, and connect with community Partners in the main gym.

Wow, the first week is just around the corner! We wanted to remind you about the rolling start that your child will have for the first week of school. Kinders only come one day during the first week. They will be given a scheduled day to attend (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) where they will come and meet a few students from class, go through the morning routine and learn about doing school. During the afternoon they will be working with our Learning Specialist, Para Educators, and their teacher to complete WA KIDS testing. Parents will have a designated time to come and meet with the teacher and student. After this has been done, you'll be able to take your student home.

Information about your scheduled time will be coming later this month.

The official first full day for Kindergartners will be Tuesday, September 3rd where they'll be here every day, all day.

Registration for new kindergarten through grade 5 students who live within our school boundaries has opened. A child must be five years of age on or before August 31, 2024 to be eligible to enroll. Please prepare to register by obtaining medically verified immunization records, birth certificate, and a proof of residence (utility bill, lease/rental agreement, or mortgage papers). We register new students online at our district website ~ Franklin Pierce Schools. Please click on the link https://www.fpschools.org/departments/k-12-office/student-enrollmentto start the process.

Current students who live within CA boundaries are automatically enrolled at CA for the 24/25 school year.

Beginning of Day

Students can be dropped off in the parent loop at the front of the school from 9:20 to 9:35am to start the school day. Any student dropped off after 9:35am will check in at the main office window to receive a late pass before heading to class.

End of Day

Students will be released from school and ready for pickup by 4:05pm. Areas will be supervised by staff until 4:20pm. Any student who has not been picked up by 4:20pm will be taken to the lobby.

Just a reminder

Please call the school before 3:30pm when your child's end of day schedule changes. This allows us time to notify your child's teacher and your child of the change. Please call our office at 253-298-3200 to report end of day changes.

For the Fall of 2024, Right at School will operate before and afterschool programs at all eight Franklin Pierce elementary schools! Right at Schools offers a safe environment for students to learn, to play and to grow!

Family and Community Engagement is a priority at Central Avenue Elementary and in the Franklin Piece School District. One way families can become involved is through the Central Avenue PTA. The PTA has been meeting and planning throughout the summer on exciting and creative ways to increase the school experience for your students. Be sure and connect with the PTA on Thursday, August 22nd in the main gym during our Back to School and Community Night.

We will be offering other ways parents can be involved with our school during back to school night as determined by family interest. We welcome volunteers and look forward to the many ways we can partner with you!

Per WA Department of Health, the immunization requirements in RCW 28A.210 regarding schools, the Department of Health has updated the Immunization Manual for Schools, Preschools, and Child Care Facilities (PDF). This means that all students enrolled at a public school must follow the immunization rules. Students will need a completed Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) and/or Certificate of Exemption (COE) on file at the school or district program in order to attend school.

Interested in working with some AMAZING Central Avenue Wildcats? Consider becoming a guest-educator! You will have a flexible schedule and work when and where you choose. To be a guest classroom teacher, you need a bachelor’s degree in any subject. With that, you can apply for an Emergency Substitute teaching certificate--you do not need to have a current teaching certificate. We will provide some additional training.

To be a paraeducator, you must possess a high school diploma, plus 72 quarter college credits of 100 level or above, an AA or a BA or pass the Para Assessment exam.
