Dairy exhibitor interviews are somewhat different than other species. It has not changed from previous years - They are scheduled on Friday. Dairy exhibitors should consult the dairy section of the premium book for times.
State Fair Gate Information
The Minnesota State Fair gate hours for the general public will be different in 2022, but don’t worry, nothing is changing for exhibitors.
Gate 14 (located at Canfield Street and Como Avenue) will continue to be a 24-hour gate, and exhibitors will be able to enter the grounds early to tend to livestock and prepare for shows just like in the past. If exhibitors have typically used another gate to walk onto the fairgrounds, Gate 5 (located on Snelling Avenue) and Gate 16 (located at the Transit Hub) will open for exhibitors at 5:30 a.m., and all other walk-through gates will open for exhibitors at 6 a.m.
For non-exhibitors, new gate and ticket sale hours will be:
- Gate ticket sales/fairgrounds open: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. (7 p.m. on Labor Day)
- Fairgrounds close: 11 p.m. (9 p.m. on Labor Day)
This information is available on the livestock encampment transportation website for families and has been added to the state fair guide.
Introducing: State Fair Project Talks
Project Talks provide an opportunity for youth to speak about their state fair exhibit in front of an audience. Participants will be asked questions in a live interview format, and encouraged to tell the story of their project and their opportunities to learn and lead in 4-H.
Presentations will be hosted by the Minnesota 4-H State Ambassadors and Minnesota 4-H State Arts-In. Participants will gain skills in storytelling, develop interview skills, and interact with State Ambassadors and State Arts-In participants. This is not a judged experience and is aimed to occur on the Harkness stage on the first floor of the 4-H Building.
Registration
On page three of state fair registration form 1, there is a box that says "Public Speaking" that should be marked to sign up for this opportunity. If your state fair paperwork has already been submitted, youth can still sign up here. Registration will close Aug. 24.
4-H Stock Talks 2022
Potential topics for the stock talks are endless! Youth are encouraged to “be creative, be funny, be serious, just be you”! The first 100 submissions will receive a 4-H Stock Talk t-shirt for participation. The top 10% of entries in each division will receive a special award, will be featured on Minnesota 4-H social media, and may be showcased at the Minnesota State Fair! https://z.umn.edu/4HStockTalks
