Spotlight
Suzie Kline has epitomized service with a smile since joining the Nutrition Services team in 2016.
Suzie smiles and smiles and smiles
GET TO KNOW SUZIE KLINE
For two years running, the Red Wing High School student body has crowned Suzie Kline staff royalty of Homecoming. The Nutrition Services team member serves joy and acceptance along with breakfast, lunch and at the popular snack bar. She’s received praise from other staff for making students feel special.
What brought you to Red Wing Public Schools?
When my kids were younger, the schedule worked great – that I was off work when they were off school.
If you could serve a surprise school menu for tomorrow, what would it be?
Definitely the old rectangle pizza from when I was a kid. And frosted cookies.
What’s your secret to connecting with students?
Just trying to smile and have an individual connection with each student that comes through my line.
After cooking, serving and cleaning in the RWHS kitchen all day, what do you put on the home table at night?
The few times a week my family is actually home at the same time, I like to make some of their favorite recipes, like my spaghetti or chicken casseroles.
What would you tell someone thinking about joining the Red Wing Public Schools team?
There are many opportunities to join our team that works well with kids’ school schedules.
Nutrition Services has openings in the high school and Burnside Elementary cafeterias right now as well as a part-time substitute position. Check them out!
How do you spend your free time outside of school?
I enjoy spending time watching my younger sons’ different sports and activities and spending time with my family and friends. During the summer, we love to be out on the boat.
Health Office Reminders
Nov. 4 is an important deadline
Immunization records and medication orders are due!
Update your child's immunization records by Nov. 4
All Red Wing Public Schools students must be up-to-date on their immunizations and provide a copy of the updated immunization record to their building nurse by Monday, Nov. 4, which is parent/teacher conference day.
Students will not be able to attend school after this date until the requirement is met or parents/guardians have submitted a signed and notarized conscientious objection form.
Questions can be directed to Joni Gorman, LSN Licensed School Nurse, at 651-385-4509 or jmgorman@rwps.org, or your building nurse.
Medication orders need physician signature; it's the law
The district must have a physician's order on file before giving prescription medications during the school day. This is state law.
Medication also must be supplied in the original pharmacy labeled container.
Any medication that does not have a physician's order turned in by Monday, Nov. 4, will not be given at school.
Questions can be directed to Joni Gorman, LSN Licensed School Nurse, at 651-385-4509 or jmgorman@rwps.org, or your building nurse.

Here we go again!
What musical will have students singing and dancing their way into 2025? A few teachers (and one retiree) created a slideshow of clues for the big reveal Oct. 16. "Mama Mia!" will grace the Sheldon Theatre stage in January. Auditions are after school on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Register for AP exams, earn college credit
Registration for AP exam is open until Nov. 1. Each advanced placement test is optional when taking an AP course.
Scores on an AP test can earn college credit or advanced placement, depending on each postsecondary institution's credit policy. A few AP classes are also concurrent enrollment with Minnesota State College Southeast.
The cost is $55 per exam. If you qualify for Education Benefits, that fee is waived. Students may contact the high school office for more information.
According to the College Board schedule, the 2025 AP Exams will be administered in schools over two weeks: May 5–9 and May 12–16. All AP tests have moved to digital this year and will be taken on Chromebooks; a few are hybrid with part of the test digital and part print.
The Power Shop became pumpkin carving central on Wednesday during the enrichment advisory period. Students had their pick of pumpkins grown by teacher Bill Emory.

An avid proponent of composting, she contacted STEM teacher Nick Richmond and volunteered to demonstrate her worm composting process during two of his grade 6 classes.
