Spotlight on Safety: Standard Response Protocols
The topic of our last Principal's Coffee Chat was safety. One thing that was reviewed was our Standard Response Protocols. CCSD adopted a safety response program known as the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) in January 2020. The SRP is a response framework that provides clear, consistent language and response actions for all staff, students, and first responders. In the event of an emergency, CCSD would communicate the protocol level of the school (ex: SIES has been placed in a SECURE status). The chart below details the various response protocols and can also be found on page 28 in your Family Handbook. For more information on the SRPs, please CLICK HERE.
*Remember: Do not BLOCK communication from CCSD. If you do, you will not receive important communication during an emergency situation. Thank you!*
Ice Cream Starts Tomorrow
A favorite is returning to the cafeteria....ICE CREAM! We will begin selling ice cream TOMORROW, October 11th. Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to purchase an ice cream for $1.50 each Friday. There are three available options: chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. All options are sugar free.
In order to purchase, students MUST have money on their account. They may not have a negative balance.
Be sure to create a LINQ Connect account to prepay for meals. Online payments are a simple, safe and secure way to make payments to your child's account 24 hours a day at your convenience. Parents can use the secure site to prepay for school meals, track food purchases, and have the assurance of knowing lunch money they send from home actually makes it to school. If a childβs account becomes low on funds, parents receive low balance alerts by e-mail. Visit linqconnect.com to setup your account. You will need your child's student ID to add them to your account. This number can be found in PowerSchool or you can email Mrs. Ferguson (lisa_ferguson@charleston.k12.sc.us), and she will send it to you. Thank you!

Area Opportunities
Green Heart Annual Giving Campaign
This year, The Green Heart Project is celebrating 15 years of serving the Charleston community, and we invite you to join us! The Green Heart Project started from an idea - one seed planted - by our founder, Karalee Nielsen Fallert. In 2009, Karalee partnered with neighborhood volunteers and the students and teachers at Mitchell Elementary School in Downtown Charleston to build a school garden. Rooted in our 3 Rules of Respect β Respect Yourself, Respect Your Buddies, and Respect the Earth -- The Green Heart Project became a point of pride for students, as they gained a sense of confidence in themselves and service to their school community. It also supported academics with hands-on, meaningful engagement for every student at the school.
