Budget Season Updates!
The Board spent many evenings plus a Saturday Session discussing the Superintendent's proposed budget for the 2023-2024 school year. We thank all of those who contributed to the discussion and we are confident that the budget puts students first!

Windermere Update from Gary Blanchette, Liaison Permanent Building Committee
Permanent Building Committee Liaison Gary Blanchette shared that the Windermere Building project continues to make progress as it moves through design phases. Most recently a Commissioning Agent was selected for the project. It is anticipated that there will be future community forums planned to share updates about the process. Stay tuned!

Great food with Whitsons!
Ellington Public Schools partners with Whitson's to provide our food services. Our students enjoy meals such as veggie bowls, Yardbird chicken sandwiches, Korean-style beef, ciabatta sandwiches, and Mediterranean bowls, all including gluten-free and vegetarian options. Our Saturday Budget Session included a sampling - it was delicious. Monthly menus are posted on Instagram @boe.ellington and Facebook.
January Recognition: Christina Herrick
Ms. Herrick is certified as a Distinguished Modern Classroom Educator! As a Modern Classroom educator, Ms. Herrick offers blended, self-paced, and mastery-based instruction in her classroom. Congratulations to Ms. Christina Herrick!
February Recognition: Ellington Winter Guard
First competition=first place! What an amazing start to the season! Mr. Delassus and Coach Liz presented the Winter Guard and shared information about the program with the board. Watch HERE.
Treble Chorus at the February Meeting
A shout out to Richard Diamond and EHS' Treble Chorus for performing the National Anthem live at our February meeting (click to watch). We have an amazing Music department here in Ellington!
CENTER SCHOOL ART WORK SELECTED
Mrs. Howard's 4th-grade art class was selected to have their Van Gogh Impressionist Flowers displayed in the Board of Ed Building until the end of the year! Students were awarded certificates as a thank you! Four classrooms per year will be chosen to have their work displayed!
WINDERMERE SCHOOL
Principal Hill and Assistant Principal James were ready to celebrate the 100th day of school! Fun 100-themed activities happened throughout the day...especially with our youngest students!
Successful Pop-Up Shop @ EHS
Board Member Kupferschmid visited the Valentine's Day sale. The pop-up bakery will operate at least once a month with new themes and new food items. All staff was given $50 worth of "bakery bucks" that they could spend at the pop-up bakery.
Artisanal Baking and Confections
Students with Board Member Kupferschmid! Students prepare food items that would be found in a retail bakery environment. Students create the menu, determine the budget, and set the selling price.

Oh, what fun we had - Board member Kerry Socha gave a shout to EMS for offering such a great program at the January meeting!
Community Turnout at Mohegan Sun for the Boys' Basketball Team!
What a turnout! Members of the Administration, the Board, and tons of Students supported the team at the State championship game. What an amazing show of support and community over the weekend. The Knights didn't win the title but should be proud of their hard work and successful season!
2023 Legislative Forum
Board Members Liz Nord, Miriam Underwood and Steve Viens attended the 2023 Legislative Forum pictured here with Greg Florio, Executive Director of CREC. Superintendent Nicol also attended the event. Topics were legislative priorities and educational issues for the 2023 Session of the CT General Assembly and learn how districts can work together to pass Equitable Educational Finding.
Internet Safety Discussion at EMS
Ellington Youth Services and Ellington Middle School offered a Community Workshop around Internet and Social Media safety. Scott Driscoll of Internet Safety Concepts presented at the workshop. Find more information in the Resource Guide.
