Note from the Principal - Emergency Drills
Each month all of our staff and students practice some kind of emergency drill. The purpose of these drills is to make sure everyone at school is prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency. On October 17th, we will be participating in "The Great Shake Out". This event is organized internationally to help participants recognize that they live in an earthquake zone and what to do in case of a seismic event. The intent of these drills is not to frighten our students but to help them understand what to do in case of an earthquake. This is also a great time to educate our students about the likely possibility of an earthquake during their lifetime. If you would like more information, you can visit the following site: https://www.shakeout.org/washington/

Note from the Dean - Bus Expectations
Building positive relationships with our students is the cornerstone to the job of Dean of Students. Getting to know students by name and recognizing them creates the environment where the Dean is another trusted adult here at Saltar’s Point when they need some assistance. The bus ride to and from school is becoming a bit of a challenge for some of the drivers. Students are standing while the bus is moving, using profanity very loudly which is impacting some of their friends on the bus and causing a distraction for the drivers, a direct safety concern. Please support us by reminding students about bus expectations in an effort to keep the bus safe and enjoyable for all our students.

Note from the Counselor-Differences between rude and mean behavior & using tools
Over the next two weeks, I will be meeting with all of our students to discuss what the differences are between rude and mean behavior. We will also go over what students can do in each of these cases such as use their Saltar’s Solutions tools (for example, use an “Ignore It”, use an “I Don’t Like It When you…” statement, or maybe even ask a student why they are acting the way they are using a Talk it Out strategy). Students can also access help from teachers or fill out a Solution Seeker form for non-emergency situations and talk with a counselor, administrator, or recess teacher for help.
We will continue teaching problem-solving skills throughout the year.

Note from the PTA & Fundraiser Update
The annual Move-A-Thon is tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 27. Please return your child's fundraising envelope on Friday (or as soon as possible).
Due to an unforeseen production glitch, the t-shirt distribution will occur in October. We ask that students and volunteers wear shirts that are grey or blue or Saltar's Point spirit wear from previous years.
As of Wednesday, students and families have generated $10,000 to fund the PTA this year. Thank you for your support! The funds raised are invested directly back into our students – through field trips, school-wide educational campaigns, curriculum support, family event nights, and student enrichment opportunities throughout the 2024-2025 school year. If we can reach our goal of $20,000, we will celebrate with a dunk tank in October. Continue sharing the fundraising campaign and consider joining the PTA to have direct access to volunteer opportunities. Online donations can be made at www.givebacks.com/causes/saltarspta/campaigns/saltarsMAT2024
