Embracing the crazy time
We have had a large number of staff absences over this past week and it is looking no different this week so far. We are just managing to maintain our teaching and learning opportunities as best we can, however there are times when we are having to split classes.
Please know that we are endeavouring to do our best, however human resources are stretched. If the trend of numbers of staff increases, we will need to move to online learning for those that can be looked after at home and then we will accommodate those who absolutely need to be here, onsite with the staff we have available.
We will, where possible try to give as much notice as we possibly can if this is the action we need to take.
Please remember, that staff are doing their best to be at school and remain well. Thank you in advance for your kindness and continued support.
REACH
We have reminded all that our actions MUST reflect our school REACH Values
R - Respect yourself and everyone else
E = Expect the best you can be
A = Achieve through opportunity
C = Communicate with (kind ) language - not hands and feet
H = Hauora, feeling safe and happy in the school community.
Please know, at times, children, do and say things which do NOT align with our REACH Values.
Please also know, when we DO know about the actions of our tamariki which do NOT align with our REACH Values, we DO address the behaviour.
As parents you may not see the steps we take, however we do endeavour to do our best to TEACH the correct behaviours we would like to see here at IPS. Keeping in mind we only have our tamariki with us for 6 hours of the day.
We have processes in place for targeted, repetitive, negative actions toward others.
These include:
- contacting whanau,
- restorative conversations with those involved,
- time in other spaces,
- limited areas of the playground,
- time out of the playground,
- time out of the classroom to complete mahi with breaks at other times to the greater school.
If these strategies are unsuccessful - then we have other alternatives available to us to utilise under various sections of the Education Act.
We spend a lot of time investigating the incidents, trying to ensure we have all relevant information and people involved in the processes. This does take time and we usually put our "24 hour rule" in place, so we can unpack the incident fairly.
We thank you as parents / whanau who take the time to teach your children to be kind and respectful to all - these actions from you are clearly visible in the way your children present themselves within our school setting. Thank you

The Inglewood Primary School Parentlink is a group of parents that meet up to plan and implement fundraising for school projects, camps, resources etc. We would love for you to join our group of Home Executive Parents, Full Time workers, Part Time workers, Farmers, Teachers and many more who all come together for the purpose of fundraising. Whether it’s organising and running and School Gala, Selling Andersons Pies, Yarrow’s Par Bake Treats, Cake Stalls or Raffles - we need your help. We meet a couple of times a term on a Wednesday evening in the School Staff Room plus the odd extra time to organise a particular fundraiser.
If this sounds like you or you have some great fundraising ideas, please come along to our next meeting advertised in the School Newsletter, App and Facebook or text/call Kirsty on 021404430.
