Start Strong! Finish Stronger!
A Message From the Principal!
Greetings Golightly Families,
What a fantastic first two weeks we have had at Golightly. It is clear that everyone was recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing Gator community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff has been hard at work with your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team continues to register new families, maintain transportation updates, and serve our community. Our hard working and conscientious custodians continue to thoroughly clean our school, classrooms, and more. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring scholars, and promoting high-level learning in a safe and healthy learning environment.
Arrival
Attendance Matters
Learning starts with good attendance. Help your child succeed in school by building good attendance habits at the start of the school year.
Attendance is a vital factor in scholar achievement, and any absences from school represents a potential educational loss to the scholar.
Regular attendance is key to your scholar’s success! To support their learning journey, please note that scholars who miss more than 45 days of school will be automatically retained for the next school year. Let’s work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential!
IReady Assessments
K-8th grade scholars will begin taking the iReady and benchmark assessments on Tuesday, September 10th. These assessments, taken three times a year, cover both Reading & Math (K-8th), and Science and Social Studies (5th & 8th). This week, we’ll start with the reading and science assessments, and continue with math and social studies the week of September 16th.
We encourage all scholars to come prepared and ready to focus. It’s important that they do their best and stay engaged throughout the assessment. Families will be updated on the results once the testing is complete. In the meantime, we kindly ask families to ensure scholars are well-rested and to offer words of encouragement each morning to help them start the day with confidence.
Nutrition
Good nutrition plays a key role in supporting optimal brain function and focus, giving scholars the best chance to succeed. To help our scholars excel in school, experience meaningful learning, and maintain overall health, we encourage you to pack healthy food items for those who bring their lunches. Your support in this effort can make a significant difference in their well-being and academic performance.
In Addition, during your morning discussions with your child, please go over the lunchroom expectations with them to ensure that our lunchtime runs as smoothly as possible.
Lunchroom Expectations
Please continue to remind your scholars of the lunchroom expectations each day to help maintain a positive and orderly environment!
- Enter the lunchroom and sit at your assigned table.
- Line up calmly when your table is called (no running to the line).
- Remember, there is no sharing of food during lunch.
- Stay seated unless you have permission to leave the table.
- Bathroom breaks should be limited to emergencies only.
Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these important guidelines with our scholars!
Don't Forget to Volunteer! This includes Volunteering for Field Trips!
lf applicants must complete volunteer applications every year on the Galaxy website at http://dpscd.galaxydigital.com/. Applicants can obtain this link from the DPSCD website.
Board adopted Policy 3120.09 – Volunteers defines volunteers in two levels:
Level I: A volunteer who has contact with students, within the presence of a District employee or is assigned duties such as an office assistant that may not directly involve student engagement. Level I require an Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) and the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry check.
Level II: A volunteer who has direct contact with students outside of the presence of a District employee except as noted above, or who is assigned duties to include, but not limited to, tutoring, overnight duties (e.g., chaperoning an overnight field trip), coaching responsibilities, or a long-term mentoring assignment.
