News & Announcements
Our second graders at Silver Spring Elementary School were "chirping" with excitement recently as they learned about baby chicks and, later, watched their very own chicks hatch. This special learning experience is part of the CKLA unit, Cycles in Nature. As a bonus, parents were welcomed into the classrooms and students were able to share what they learned about the chicks.
Special thanks to the Cumberland Valley Eagle Foundation for supporting this project through a Learning Grant.
Photos of the excitement in Ms. Amber Bogaczyk's class.
Students in Mrs. Susan Emerick's AP Seminar course (the first course in the AP Capstone Diploma program) recently presented their AP exam, Team Multimedia Presentations, to classmates. Students worked in teams to find solutions to real-world problems. They identified a problem, researched it via a variety of individual lenses, and then met to review each other’s research. Ultimately, the groups used that individual research to further the group’s investigation of possible solutions and eventual arguments for the best solution. This is communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking in action!
It's a Breakout to benefit CV Mini-THON
CV Mini-THON will be hosting a virtual escape room family night on Friday, February 23rd from 6 PM - 7 PM at Winding Creek Elementary School! The night will consist of a jungle-themed virtual breakout room, where teams must complete a series of tasks and answer questions to "break out." The event is cash only, paid at the door, with the cost of admission at $3 per person with a cap of $12 per family. Each family should bring their own devices (tablets/phones) to participate in the breakout room, and school devices are recommended.
The Buddy Program is one of the cornerstone programs of the Eagle Foundation. It continues today as one of the programs that best illustrates the Foundation's efforts to improve the lives of the students and families in our community, particularly middle and high school students who might benefit from a positive mentor relationship. Middle-school aged students (grades 5-8) are selected to participate in the initial six-week Buddy Program each summer and paired with a college-aged mentor for the summer program. They learn and grow together through an adventure-based program that focuses on building peer relationships, enhancing self-esteem, and promoting self-advocacy. Student-mentor teams participate in a variety of planned activities including team-building activities, community service, educational outdoor excursions, and important one-on-one time.
Application deadline: Mar. 11, 2024
This is an outstanding resume builder for anyone interested in going into education, or any human services field! Applicants MUST currently be attending college and must have completed at least one year of college or 24 credits. For details and the application, click here.
