Spotlight of the Week
Recently, Mrs. LePoer shared her experience as a Khmer Rouge survivor with the Split Team 8th graders. She described her family's separation, hunger, and struggle to get to the Taiwanese border for their passage of freedom. Students listened intently and asked pertinent questions. This was a culminating activity for the memoir they read, First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung.
On Wednesday's early release day, Split Team ELA students celebrated our memoirs by playing musical chairs to the song, "You're a Shining Star" by Earth, Wind and Fire. Students were picked, three times using Flippity, to be the leader of a "conga line" to dance for donuts! When they sat, they read a peer's memoir, and left feedback: What did you notice about this piece of work? Feel free to leave a compliment about his work, and What questions do you have about this piece of work?
It was a great way to end a unit of study and build student confidence in their nonfiction narrative writing.
At the Daley Middle School in the AV room, the Drama Club is currently rehearsing their play, The Wizard of Oz. The Drama Club is practicing their songs and singing their hearts out making sure that they are prepared for their upcoming show. In Drama Club, peers are demonstrating relationship skills as everyone is always willing to help each other to perfect their performance. Overall kindness is spreading all the time throughout the Drama Club with people sharing smiles because of their effort, hard work, and dedication they are putting into the show. Great job, Drama Club!
The Wizard of Oz will be performed at 2:45 pm on Thursday, 4/3 and at 6:30 pm on Friday, 4/4. All Daley community members are invited to stop by and support the Club!

Where is the bus? Check the spreadsheet!
The Lowell Public Schools Transportation Department has added a live spreadsheet to its webpage that indicates in the AM or PM if a school bus (grades K-8) is running late and by how long. Check it out today: https://www.lowell.k12.ma.us/Page/5990
